"Enjoyed 4 nights at the Mercure Hida Takayama. Were able to meet my request for a room on a higher floor and facing in the old town direction. Was treated to a view of the snow capped mountains in the distance. Hotel is modern and designed with lots of wood features to match the tradition of the local area. Room was spacious compared to normal Japanese hotels with plenty of room to store luggage and move around in. Good touches such as USB sockets built into the bedside panels. Bathroom was walk in shower which we prefer and was a good size. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Hotel has public onsen and also 3 private onsens. There is a small mandatory charge on top of the room cost for the public onsens which I didn't recall seeing any note about when booking but it was a small charge. Public onsen was good though with indoor and outdoor for both men and women. Went a couple of time in late evening and was pretty quiet. Location great - close to bus and train station (5 min walk). About 10min walk into Takayama old town. Overall, if we ever went back to Takayama, we would try and stay here again."

"I had the privilege to stay in one of the rooms with the beautiful view of mountains and the city of Takayama. The staff was very pleasant and service was amazing. I also enjoyed the experience of the hot springs and would higly recommend anyone if they would be staying in Takayama, to come to this hotel."

"There's staff to welcome and orientate us upon arrival. And since it's a large hotel with 3 buildings, the staff briefed us and walked us to the building where our room was. Nice breakfast and we have 3 onsens to choose from! It's also conveniently located within walking distance or a short drive to the main sights at Gero. "

"Hotel shuttle convenient evey 30 minutes from JR statio. Fabulous room Orinkaku western style. Onsen was good Green Market buffet was okay."

"Great location especially for festivals and old town. The best room, friendly staff, public onsen, really enjoyed traditional breakfast. Make sure the hotels helps with dinner reservations, they did not offer for us and a lot of restaurants book up. "
