"The hotel is modern and clean with a large bar / restaurant overlooking the racecourse. Rooms are a decent size and nicely furnished, with a huge walk in shower. We also had a racecourse view which was great. Breakfast was excellent, it's a buffet but with a decent range of good quality hot and cold options. Staff were all very friendly. Only disappointment is that there is an additional charge for parking of £5 per day, would have expected this to be free. "

"Little bit of confusion at check in which was quickly and easily sorted out by the staff. Apparently hotels.com and the hotel aren’t compatible when booking so I’d call ahead if you are staying here to cover any issues before you arrive. Either way, we got a room that we were expecting and breakfast. Room was large and comfortable, very clean."

"Excellent place to stay, helpful staff, comfortable room and a free continental breakfast, unfortunately the restaurant was no longer open Which was a bit of a shame hopefully it gets back up and running, the park directly opposite was brilliant was nice for a stroll along the water and a evening run along the canal, hotel was great value for money and Retford town was quite pleasant, would stay again."

"Reception staff are very friendly and helpful. There were a couple of issues with my room, but they were sorted straight away. This is a very basic 'dry' hotel originally built for offshore rig workers so set your expectations accordingly. That said it's about a third of the price of the posh one next door which does have a bar. The airport check-in desks are about 600m away, ish, so a very easy walk. The bed was comfortable and roomy for one, but two might be 'cosy'. Also, surprisingly quiet....

"I found my stay at The Elms to be very pleasant and convenient. I stayed in The Stables just around the corner from the main hotel. The room was very comfortable and clean. There were plenty of teas and coffees. The shower was decent. I enjoyed a good night's sleep. I also had dinner at the Indian Restaurant within the hotel. If I am in the area again, I will have no hesitation in staying there again"

"Reception could be more friendly and welcoming .Nice evening meal by pond and staff were very obliging regarding food allergies. Comfortable, quiet room. At breakfast a different response rather grumpy and made to feel awkward customers. "

"Well what a surprise we hadn’t expected much as we paid a very reasonable price. Arrived and was shown up to our room, very friendly service. We stayed in the cappuccino room. The room was lovely, great size & really light and airy. Lots of little touches like kits with things you might need, plenty of shower wash, shampoo etc. tea, coffee & sugar well Stocked as well as little biscuits & bottles of water.
