"Convenient for our stay to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing- Maria was spectacular- friendly and a great host. The only thing was that the location is directly on the highway and you did hear the passing traffic at night but this is not a fault of the lodge - its a very convenient place with onsite shuttle pickup for the TAC. "A little gem of a property. Built around a courtyard, the motel was very quiet. It is off the main road, but easily within walking distance and a 2 minute drive into town. There is a small playground nearby as well as a fantastic Carrotland Adventure Playground (with flying fox and confidence court!) in town. "The River Lodge is a beautiful property set in lovely grounds. We had a large beautiful room, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and a balcony with a wonderful view of the mountain. We had fabulous breakfasts and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is that it is quite remote - about a 10 minute drive into Ohakune."
