"Actually good value if you accept the tatami style bedding. Only problem is that going out of the room to the shared toilets and showers can be freezing as the common areas are not yeated. Hotel looks old. But it was in the centre of Ina, and had good free parking. Room we got for 5 pax was relatively cheap."

But for face and teeth brushing, you will need to go to common bathroom area. Onsen is said to have medicinal properties. There's nothing much around that area. "The guesthouse was absolutely gorgeous and in a stunning part of Japan. We rented a car in Matsumoto and used the guesthouse as a base for visiting Kamikochi. The hotel is bright and cheery. The rooms are a generous size. The futons comfortable. Perhaps the best thing of all was the private onsen. The dining options around are a little limited- very few are open at night. There are more soba lunch options but we were out walking. We went to both Abbey Road and Springbank which were fine. "
