We stayed at the room on the 7th floor the lake views were amazing highly recommended. We had a good experience at the hotel the staff are friendly, would come back again.
I can understand that vacation resorts and hotels in Taiwan don't get too many western visitors but I do believe they need to ramp up their English skills a bit and also learn what we expect in terms if service. Taiwan has so much to offer and when the government eventually decides to push for Taiwan as a vacation spot the flood gates will open!
Check-in at Wen Wan was lengthy but worked out well after 3 people from the staff were involved in the paperwork. I don't want to sound woke or patronizing but asking for a dinner table at the restaurant should not result in them having a 3 minute phone conversation with their management, followed by management explaining to their guests how expensive this particular restaurant is. We ended up leaving the table and going downtown for dinner and by the looks of the restaurant, their other guests seem to have made the same decision.
Room was clean, quiet and of high standard with nothing missing, great view of Sun Moon Lake and impeccable room service.
Luxurious hotel room with a great view of the lake. Stayed here for New Year’s Eve and saw the fireworks from our room’s balcony! Hot tub inside the room was amazing too. Would definitely come again!

Great Lake view and hot spring bath
The room was great with spectacular view. However, the meal and the bath could be improved.
The room is great and the bath was a hot spring. Definitely, we hope we can come back soon. The dinner set can be improved tho. The same food for dinner was provided during our two nights stay.
It was really terrible. My family and I stayed for one night. We tried to check in at 4:30 pm but the room was given at 5:20pm. They were supposed to be ready at 3:00pm. Restaurant was dirt and the leftover could be seen on the table and floor. The kids’ playground was not locked and did not mention any maintenance or stuff like that. It was not Arth to pay USD570 to stay in that hotel.
Staffs greeted us at the curbside warmly. Very helpful with introducing the special features and free events of the hotel. All the staffs were courteous and professional. Beautiful view of the lake. Room was very clean. And they offered to bring us more water bottles when we needed it. It also has a filter water dispenser in the room
This place is understaffed. One same server is working at the dinner restaurant in the evening, at the lounge bar at 8pm and at the breakfast place in the morning.
As you can imagine, the service quality wouldn't be great under this circumstance.
The dinner was not impressive at all. The lamb chops were overcooked. The vegetables were not so fresh. It's hard to believe this kind of food quality is part of this great hotel.
The lounge bar is even worse. Open at 8pm and close at 10pm? I appreciate the poor hardworking man on 3 shifts. But he's definitely a regular server, not a bartender. The cocktail was merely a mix of off-the-shelf products.
The breakfast was only the good part comparing to the other two. The food quality was ok, but the layout of food display was terrible. The coffee and fruit were separated from the main dining room. It's hard to know the breakfast place providing not only Taiwanese breakfast but also continental breakfast until you asked.
The facilities and hardware are really great here. But the service is far from a match for it. What a waste.
Unable to turn off light to entry way and night stand without turning off the main power which cuts off power to the toilet for flushing and for charging phones. Good breakfast, good view, over priced.
Good view, hot tub in room, Cannot turn off lights
First the good. The location is beautiful, it's on top of a hill over looking Sun Moon Lake. It has very nice view from the room, free water in the room, and a great Taiwanese breakfast. You also get to visit the observatory for free. There is also a hot tub in the room with hot springs. Here's the bad. The room has a main power switch by the door. In order to turn off the entry lights and lights under the night stand you would have to shut off the main power. Which means the toilet stops working (yes, you cannot even flush), there is no power to the outlets (You want to charge your phone? forget it). Also, they only have feather bedding and pillows. There are no foam pillow or even a blanket without feather. If you're allergic to feather, and like a dark room. This place is not for you.
The room is very comfortable, there so many reviews saying is bad, so I was kind of hesitate , but I was glad I did pick this hotel, the only complaint might be they put me on third floor, there is 4 trees blocking my view. Other than that, yes
I would be back again!
Love this property, however it is starting to show some age. Still probably the best location to enjoy Sun Moon Lake. The staff was pleasant, but lacking at times in communicating. Our room was not ready at check-in, yet occupancy was very low - so unsure why we waited. The free shuttle wasn’t running on schedule which meant needing to walk back up the hill - good exercise, but not so fun in the rain. The hot spring tubs in the rooms are Devine and well worth the experience. Dining staff were not very efficient- again it was not very busy...and we were not in a rush. The best service was from the bell man and shuttle driver when we arrived who took us down the hill to explore the city while we killed some time waiting for the room. He provided great information on activities and was very friendly and helpful (sorry not to get his name - but they need more of him on staff.) By no means would I discourage staying at Wen Wan - it is a magnificent place - must have caught it on an off couple of days.
