This was our 2nd time staying at this property and we were so glad we returned! The house is spacious and well appointed, and the location couldn’t be better! Loved having my morning coffee on the upper deck and I enjoyed the view of the lighthouse and harbor. Will be back again, I hope!
The property had a beautiful view. It was very clean, with a comfortable bed. The kitchen was well equipped and the game room was nice. Only thing we could have used was a grill.
This house exceeded our expectations and was very accommodating for our group of friends who wanted the perfect summer beach trip. The house was clean and provided us with all the necessary amenities. Morning coffee on the balcony, front row views of the beautiful lighthouse and marina, and a close proximity to the beach, breakfast diner, and fishery were the highlights of our stay at the Lightkeeper's Refuge. The host was a big help and quick to respond. I would highly recommend this location and cannot wait to return to beautiful Barcelona and the town of Westfield.
Another wonderful stay at the Lightkeepers Refuge. The added seating on the top balcony was perfect. Mornings couldn't be better on that balcony rain or shine. Watching the boats head out for the day, breathing the fresh Canadian air, (we had no issues with the Canadian wildfires) there is nothing more relaxing. Dining at Brazill's is highly recommended. We are still enjoying our pies from Portage Pies, definitely worth the stop. Sadly we weren't able to make it to The Parkveiw for their fabulous chicken salad. Nothing but relaxing. No need to worry about anything. If you do need anything, its just a little drive into Westfield.
HOUSE WAS OLD AND DIRTY OUR FEET TURNED BLACK PROBLEMS WITH ANTS .COULD NOT USE THE OVEN DUE TO GREASE. OWNER WOULD NOT ANSWER OUR EMAIL. TRUCK TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY AND NOISY ENJOYED THE LAKES AND TOWN YOU COULD WALK TO STONEY BEACH ENJOYED THE VIEW AND CONVIENCE TO MARINA
My wife and I were looking for a comfortable/secluded home that was close to highway access. This home was perfect! We were able to easily see a lot of WNY due to the multiple nearby roads and highway. Additionally, the quaint town of Westfield was close so we were able to go grocery shopping, get coffee, and pick up take-out from multiple restaurants that were all within 5 mins. The house itself came exactly as advertised! We spent a lot of time in the back room reading, playing games, and watching TV. The house was really clean and had a lot of nice touches. We stayed in the middle of the winter and it was NOT drafty as every room felt toasty and warm! The layout was also perfect as you could hang out together or go to another room to get some privacy. The pier and light house across the street were beautiful. There was also a nice beach within a 1/4 mile with some great views and a lot of driftwood. The owner of the home was amazingly quick to respond to messages and you can tell she truly cares! Additionally, she was understanding, patient, and terrifically kind. We highly recommend!!

Variable Experience
I feel compelled to leave a review that is an accurate representation of our stay. Despite most reviews indicating a 10/10 experience, which speaks for itself, our experience was not fully the same. When we got there the lockpad to get in was being finicky. The host was very response via phone to help us get in. We arrived later in the evening (8:30pm) so were hoping to settle in and relax. After we got inside the host called us back to let us know there had been a mistake and the cleaning crew had never come to clean. She did immediately offer to refund our trip if we wanted to stay elsewhere (which wasn’t an option, it was late and we had nowhere else to go) and also offered to contact her cleaner to send her out right away. She offered to refund us the cleaning fee, which was nice but didn’t feel sufficient in my perspective. She did get the cleaners out about 30 minutes later which was nice and the cleaners were very nice. They cleaned until about 10:30/11 and then we were able to get ready for bed. The host reached out to offer a better refund due to the trouble/stress which felt more appropriate to us. The rest of our stay was completely fine and we enjoyed the space. The initial stress does not seem to be a regular occurrence.
Wonderful! Words really cannot describe what a fabulous relaxing refuge this is. Kathleen and her staff have thoughtfully designed the Lightkeepers Refuge for a carefree stay. Everything you'll need for your stay is there. My husband & I booked in hopes that family nearby could visit. The offer of unlimited WIFI got our nieces there, but surprisingly they stayed, sleeping in often. I'm guessing their beds were just as comfy as the master. There was plenty for the 4yr old to explore in the yard, when we weren't across the street at the lake. The game room provided actives to keep him entertained also. I can't begin to describe the beauty of the porch and decks. The swing on the second story deck was so peacefully enjoyable. The back deck overlooking the grapes was the best for stargazing. Being there during harvest was an added plus also, Oh the sweet smell of grapes in the air.
Chautauqua County is my favorite place to recharge, and the Lightkeepers Refuge delivered 100%!
With a vineyard and garden in the backyard this house is perfect. We were able to watch restoration of the lighthouse across the street and had a wonderful view of Lake Erie. The house is also perfectly located for quick day trips to Buffalo, Niagara, and Chautauqua.
I believe this is our 3rd stay at the Light Keepers Refuge, and we hope to return again. I could go on about the comfy beds or the accommodating space for friends and family while visiting the area, but its the fresh air that is gem of this property. The fresh Canadian air that blows through this home is truly restorative. You just feel better when you stay here.
The house was clean and we felt very safe as all doors and windows locked and had deadbolts too. The outside is as beautiful as the inside with the view of the lake, wow! I wish we could have stayed longer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week as a family here! The house had everything we needed and the host was wonderful!! Perfect location. We enjoyed the close access to the beach. The home was very clean and welcoming. We would absolutely book this home again!!
My partner and I came here with our dog for a mini-moon right after getting married and we had such a wonderful time. The harbor and the beach right across the street are beautiful and were very quiet on weekdays. We had a lovely time visiting local wineries and were able to find plenty of restaurants with dog-friendly patios so our pup could join us for dinner. The house is really charming and the host was very helpful and responsive - we'll definitely be back!
My family and I had a great vacation at Lake Erie. The property is beautiful and the house was clean, great location, beautiful views and provided everything we needed and more!
Our stay was too short! We loved our stay and hope to come back and explore more. The house had everything we needed and was very clean and well appointed. We loved sitting on the upper porch swing with a view of the lake and lighthouse. The host was wonderful and check in and out were easy. We hope to return!
We had a wonderful time in a wonderful location! We thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of Lake Erie from the home and from the beaches, which are in walking distance. Sunsets over the lake were especially beautiful. We also enjoyed the lighthouse and the town of Westfield.
We were looking for a house to celebrate my moms 60th birthday and we picked the perfect place!!! Kathleen was wonderful from the start, answering all our questions prior to arriving. The house was exactly what we were looking for, lots of space to be together and yet spread out when we needed our own space. It was perfect walking distance to the beach and directly across the street from a beautiful light house!! Would 100% recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend!!
The beach house was a perfect place to spend a vacation. Access to the beach/marina is very close; town is just a few minutes away. House is very spacious, and the outside porches with bench swing and bench were very relaxing places to spend time.
We enjoyed the house and surrounding area very much. The house is right across the road from an old lighthouse and steps from several beaches (sandy and rocky-take your pick). The host is very responsive. Wonderful activities include Niagara Falls, Erie Canal, Dunkirk Lighthouse and Park, Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz Museum, and the National Comedy Museum. Also lots of vineyards and excellent restaurants!
My family just suffered a tremendous loss so we needed to spend the Easter holiday away from the usual holiday traditions as part of our healing. My parents and my daughter relaxed and played board games. The new family puppy loved walking on the shore. The sunrise and sunsets were spectacular. The hosts had every single amenity handled—from coffee to snacks,
extra towels to dishware. During this time if year, most tourist spots were closed but it was an easy drive to Niagara Falls and the natural beauty of the area makes for pleasant day drives. Highly, highly recommend.
