Enjoy easy access to this charming Colorado mountain town with a stay in this equally charming Westcliffe Guest Suite near downtown and only a 10 minute walk to the Bluff with its amazing views of the Sangre de Cristos. The Guest Suite includes one private bedroom with queen bed, 2nd bedroom with single-over-double bunk bed, living room with gas fireplace and smart TV, mini-kitchenette (microwave, mini-fridge, Keurig and dining table), and a full bathroom with both a shower and a claw-foot tub. There is plenty of free street parking in front of the house, and additional diagonal parking is available on the intersecting side street. Westcliffe is a small, quiet and engaging mountain community whose residents treasure its long ranching and mining history, the surrounding mountains, and the wide open Wet Mountain Valley within which it is located. The altitude of Westcliffe is 7,887 feet above sea level and it is surrounded by mountains, several of which are among the highest in Colorado, soaring to over 14,000 feet. The nearby Rainbow Trail offers great hiking opportunity for all levels of ability. Westcliffe is an internationally certified Dark Sky Community with a rich community calendar of numerous music festivals, other live music, live theater and art festivals year-round. My house is a bungalow style home with an interesting connection to local mining history. The Guest Suite was originally two separate miner's cabins from the late 1800's that were moved from the old mining towns of nearby Silvercliffe and Rosita then combined into a single dwelling, and later remodeled and enlarged into a beautiful modern home. A history was retained of the original combined dwelling and subsequent modifications, including interesting historical artifacts that were found in the process of remodeling that have been preserved and are available for viewing. The home sits on a quiet corner in a residential neighborhood one block off Westcliffe's Main Street. A newly renovated small city park is one block away on the corner of Main (Hiway 96) and 4th Street with flower gardens, a pavilion and seating. A larger city park with a playground, ball field, two small pavilions and bathroom facilities is three blocks away in the other direction. Across the street from there is yet another city park with a larger pavilion, playing field, and tennis courts. Bluff Park with its amazing wide open views of the Wet Mountain Valley and Sangre de Cristo mountain range is an easy 4 block walk westward. There you will also find Smokey Jack Observatory that hosts star-viewing parties and public events. Bluff Park is also the location of Westcliffe's famous High Mountain Hayfever Bluegrass Festival held every July, as well as other live events. All of downtown Westcliffe is available with an easy stroll. Within easy walking distance, you'll find unique restaurants and eating establishments, pubs, coffee shops, art galleries, a bowling alley, grocery store, liquor store, florist and gift shop, bakeries, two thrift stores, the vibrant local library and shopping for jewelry, outdoor gear, clothing, gifts, and local souvenirs. Several churches are also within easy walking distance. I am an experienced Host with a prior long history of Super Host status managing a previously owned property in Wisconsin.
