Beds were clean, comfortable, with plenty of linens, and bedrooms had blackout blinds. Showers were hot and spacious. Living areas had plenty of natural light, and could be brightly lit at night. TV was available, with Netflix, if you have an account. Being Canadian, we would have liked to watch our favourite NHL team and curling, but could not access. Had to go to a sports bar.
Maria’s thoughtfulness was obvious: two welcome baskets, full of snacks, toiletries, etc. She had plenty of valuable advice and answered all of our questions. Thanks very much, Maria!
Within easy walking distance of Maria’s place: The Diner (breakfast & dinner) 2 minutes; Subway-3 minutes; in the same building are Cayman National Bank with ATM, and a pharmacy. Across the street from there: a liquor store, clothing store, and variety store. Foster’s grocery store is a bit further-about 10-15 minute walk from Maria’s. Public buses run from Foster’s straight past Maria’s, so it’s easy to transport groceries that mode, also.
We took public buses almost everywhere we went; drivers will take you right to your door. Cost is $2 CI (Cayman dollars) or $2.50 USD. If you go beyond Georgetown, the cost goes up a bit, but still a great deal. Drivers will stop anywhere to pick you up on their routes and can be flagged down easily. Right across from Maria’s place on the road is usually where we caught the bus, or walked to the 4 way stop bus stop by Subway. We only took taxis to and from the airport to the District Depot, in downtown Georgetown. Check out their routes in explorecayman.com. The Depot is close to the wharf, duty free shops, and numerous restaurants. We had our driver drop us at the public beach on 7 mile beach one day, too. Played cards, plenty of shade, tables, washrooms, and a food & beverage trailer close by. Gorgeous beach!
From Maria’s place , you can see Al Fresco Restaurant, good food, and you can sit and watch the sunsets while you dine. As in the pictures, the beach is right across the road, locals are friendly, Maria has snorkeling equipment available, or you can use her folding chairs and take your book and a drink to the beach!
Maria’s place has pay for use laundry facilities in a separate building, private patio in the back, good air conditioning, fridge with ice dispenser, Keurig coffee maker and adequate kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Maria’s place!
