After 50 plus years, we finally moved to Warren full time in 2015 and built this guest house / detached garage apartment so family & friends could stay. Situated on 100 acres and off a paved road in a wooded meadow adjacent to the Green Mountain National Forest. While totally secluded, we are mere minutes to ski resorts, golf, swim holes, hiking, biking and all the great area restaurants.
If you are looking to make the move too, I am a licensed Vermont Realtor with Bradley Brook Real Estate.
The space
The 1,000 sq/ft apartment has plenty of room for a family of four with an open floor plan that includes a full kitchen, dining nook, seating area with a flat screen TV/Roku/Netflix and fiber optic wifi internet. The mountain view spans the length of the space from the kitchen to the master bedroom. The bathroom has a full size stacked clothes washer and dryer.
Cable Network TV and Landline Phone are Optional at Guest Expense.
Note: The State of VT does not assess the 9% Rooms Tax on stays 30 Days or greater.
Guest access
Access to the entire apartment plus access to the brook, logging roads on the other side and the Green Mountain National Forest at the top of the logging roads.
Other things to note
If just hanging out on site is what you desire, there is a logging road path to a stream just out your front door; there's tons of space to explore. See if you can find the mini waterfalls on the property. (Happy to give you a hint too) There is also a small swim hole for getting wet but instructions would be needed on getting there. At the end of the day sit and relax outside by the fire pit, listen to the river and watch the sun set on the mountain in your back yard.
Our neighbor grazes his goats occasionally in a fenced area of the property and does occasional 'helping tours' for his milking and cheese production for a nominal fee. Kids love watching and petting the baby goats through the fence in late Spring. Keep an eye to the meadow and maybe you will see a red fox, wild turkeys, deer or, if you are really lucky, a moose that roams the valley. The closest we've gotten recently is a foot print by the pond.
TV - The space has flat screen TV with a Blu-Ray player & Roku. You can also access the Internet and your Netflix account. There is NO Cable connected to the TV. Guests may request Cable hookup; it can be arranged for an additional charge.
Landline Phone - With cell phones in every pocket, we do not have a landline phone. Wifi calling will be best option.
Internet - We have high speed fiber optic wifi internet which is included. 10/10 mbps. Increasing to 25/25 is possible. It can be bumped all the way up to Gigabits per Second and we can discuss costs if really needed.
We have gotten great feedback from past guests on speed and reliability, so working and video conferences from the space have been no problem.
Fire pit - You are welcome to use the fire pit as burning conditions permit from Apr-Nov. We are happy to provide firewood (when available) free of charge. If your stay extends to 4 nights, a couple fires is fine, and I am happy to set them up for you, just let me know. If you would like to scratch around in the woods on your own and look for dead branches, that is fine as well. Long term stays, 2 a week as my supply lasts. Buying wood in town is always an option too. (I'm trying to be sure I have wood all season for everyone without having anyone buy camp wood.)
'Noise' - Mine - I do mow occasionally, and otherwise maintain, the property once or twice a year and the equipment is noisy. I do try to time it around guests' stays but it is possible that it may coincide, due to weather and other factors. Please know that I will be mindful, and will never start operations at the crack of dawn. Also, the kids might take the UTV that is stored in the garage out occasionally and they will ride around for a bit. I ask them to stay out front and to the 'house side' of the property to be considerate to our guests.
