"We were driving from the UK to the south west of France and wanted somewhere to stay en route. What a wonderful surprise this place was. The house is a big, beautiful, old (really old!) property with very generous rooms and lovely ensuite bathrooms. The hosts are very welcoming and generous. Saintes - who knows why that big town is not more widely known as a tourist destination. Incredible architecture, lovely river walks, greta places to eat. And the best bit - we have 2 large excitable dogs...

"Hard to find the first time, but ideally located overall. Towns and champagne tour route nearby. Our rooms were spacious, comfortable and quiet. We did not self-cater but with a boulangerie a short walk it would have been easy. We were only in for a short stay (attending a wedding) but would definitely stay again if we were to revisit the region."

Christine (the owner) could not have been more helpful, she was genuinely concerned about making sure everything was OK and you were having a good time - which I was! "Had a lovely time in your chateau, thanks very much. The house was really beautiful, loads of space and lots of quirky features like the piano, vintage bicycles and attic rooms. Lady next door selling local cognac was very friendly. At night the sky was so dark, excellent for stargazing. The river charente is lovely for swimming in. Super!"
