I searched long and hard for a nice place to take my family in Tulum. We're a family of six with four kids (23, 21, 18, and 15 - girl, boy, girl, boy). We flew into Cancun from Maryland and rented a van and drove to Tulum. We stopped off along the way in Playa de Carmen for a late lunch and some high energy fun. We arrived as it was getting dark so we were a bit worried about finding it. Luis, the building supervisor, met us at the gate to let us in. (Let me also mention that Luis is AWESOME. He is friendly, attentive and responsive to any needs, and has a great attitude. He kept our beach clean and clear of any seaweed, moved our cushions back and forth to the waterfront palapas, and always has a smile. And why wouldn't he? He works in Paradise. The owner, Luu, is awesome as well. She is truly vested in our family's best interest and aims to please - but again, this place does most of the work by itself) Our girls had their own KING size bed EACH in their own room w their own bathroom, the boys had their own bed (one was a double bed, the other a single) and their own bathroom, and my wife and I took the back bedroom, queen bed, with its own bathroom. The setup was perfect. The living area was huge and enjoyed every day and night. We made breakfast every morning. There is a store about 8 minutes away by car and it is a Mexican Super WalMart w/ EVERYTHING you could possibly need. (you can't buy beer until after 9 AM. Lol. My bad on that one. And btw, a 12 pack of Corona was $5! Also: bring Mexican pesos instead of US dollars - they go farther). Renting a van was A LOT easier than I anticipated. It made us very portable. Every day was a different adventure: many cenotes to explore (you HAVE to see and experience them!), Tulum ruins, natural parks, fishing trips, snorkeling, the WORKS. I have two Vegans in the family and there were TWO outstanding vegan restaurants within walking distance from the place: "Restaurau" and "Charlie's Vegan Tacos". And Charlie is a super cool dude. Each meal we had was a good as the next and there are SO many to choose from. There is a brick oven pizza place about 150 steps away (where my kids hit three different times late!). The concrete deck is about 45 steps to the water. Palapas and beach recliners are for US and us only to use. There is a beachfront bar next door! And boy do the stars fill the night sky. Amazing. Man, this was fun to write as I revisited Tulum and our awesome vacation.
