"stayed here with my brother and a friend. it's so close to skogafoss! we enjoyed our stay. the facilities were clean, and the breakfast included with our stay was fresh and delicious."

"Quiet, comfortable stay on a farm that was just outside of Vik and close to Dyrholaey and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. There are 5 rooms with a shared kitchen, sitting area and 2 bathrooms. The bathrooms were modern and spacious, and even though they were 'shared,' there was always at least one open whenever needed. The other guests were quiet and considerate, so we would definitely stay here again."

"This guesthouse was a wonderful place to stay not far from Vik. The beds were comfortable and the shared amenities were nice. My only complaint was the cleanliness of the bathroom. It didn't seem to be completely cleaned between people's visits... "

"My son and I stayed for 3 nights. We loved the communal dining area, the complementary breakfast cereals, milk, tea and coffee were a really nice touch, especially given the remoteness. The kitchen is a good size and really well-stocked for pots/pans/plates etc. The view was stunning. The road to the property is cratered and care needs to be taken. The bathroom could do with a refresh, but everything was clean, tidy and worked. We'd visit again."

"This was our second stay in a year’s time. If you don’t know what to expect, you may be surprised. It’s an old boarding school, so it has a cool factor. It feels like you’ve stepped back in time because everything looks original. The rooms are old but clean and have a bed, table, and sink. The bathrooms are down the hall, old but clean as well. It could really use some renovations. The location is great if you’re in the area because there aren’t many other options. We were disappointed with...

"DO NOT BOOK HERE! They don't care if the weather closes the roads and you can't get there, it's your problem and they don't refund you even though it's out of your control. "

"No one was there when we arrived but we soon found out that they were over booked and we we put up in a nearby hotel that was of a much poorer quality for the same price. I have read other reviews saying that when they arrived they found out that the hotel was overbooked too so this might be a policy of theirs. Nice enough place otherwise but I would not recommend."

"This was a guesthouse where we were greeted by the owner as we drove up. She showed us our room, which was clean and comfortable. She also made wonderful pancakes for breakfast for everyone, it felt like a family meal. I would recommend to anyone wanting something other than the sterile hotel room experience. "

"Nice suits in a beautiful location. We enjoyed hiking up the waterfall and playing with the dogs. The owners provided fresh baking for guests daily, which was a lovely surprise."

Great location and very modern!

Superb stay!

"The Katla hotel was superb - neat, clean, courteous, professional waitstaff and front desk. Hallway lights were on a timer to conserve energy and there were recycle bins available. The food was incredible, including the decadent dinner buffet. They honestly left nothing to be desired. On our second morning, after a wonderful breakfast (included in your stay), our room key did not work. The front desk reset our keys (did not work), then gave us new keys (did not work), and finally called maintenance since it was assumed the issue was with the door lock and not the keys. Maintenance was able to get in with his own master key, but paused before letting us in, remarking that he wanted to make sure this was indeed our room. I was surprised, since the idea of crime in Iceland was completely non-existent, but comforted that they took our safety seriously. We were able to show him our passports once in the room to reassure him. That's quality service. "
