"I love the onsen beside the river"

"If you're looking for a swank hotel, then this is not you're looking for. However, if you are looking for an excellent place to stay with gracious hosts and family, then this is a perfect spot in Tanabe. We stayed here on 10/24-25 to hike Kumano Kodo trail. Koushi and Chiyoko were extremely gracious hosts and treated us like family while we were there. They went "beyond the call of duty" to help us in finding a lost jacket left on the train and they made sure we were safe all along the way. ...

"Big shared kitchen "

"Tried to check out and could not as they did not have staff to take payment. Had to leave to make it to bus in order to catch my train and flight. Has to go to extraordinary lengths to pay them after. Also extremely overpriced for this hotel, would never come back."

"Property was decent, but is in need of some renovation (which it appears they are doing right now). The staff is friendly and accommodating (very few speak English, but they try their best). The hotel is short taxi ride from many areas, including Tanabe. They have a vendor selling fresh oranges in the lobby, which was a nice surprise."

They weren't just hospitable with their delicious cooking, but they help out with your itinerary to make sure you get the best out of your trip! With their warm welcomes, good cooking, and breathtaking views of Wakayama. This place is one of a kind that you must experience. Plus they tend to turkey, a rooster, and 50 goats! "

"Very goog transitional Japanese onsen experience. Staff said good English, comfortable room with great view to the outside. Dinner super tasty."

"It is clean and sufficient. Downside is that it is a bit dated, lack out power outlets to charge all the electronic devices. The host, Ken is very friendly and gave me a excellent intro of the area. I only stayed one night before hiking the Kumano Kodo. It is close to the train/bus station so that is a plus."

"A nice place to stay for an authentic experience. The host is very responsive to any questions you’ll have. If hiking be aware the house is about 2km from the trail and you have to descend the amount you climbed to get back to the road- hike back up approx 45 minutes. Be sure to set up food/transportation if you need them 2 weeks in advance. "

"Lovely and friendly staff. The property is an old school onsen hotel. The furnishing is a bit dated, but everything is very clean. The private onsen is a bonus and the large public onsen area was beautiful and relaxing. Dinner was nicely presented and delicious. "
