"Where to start, this Ryokan was spectacular. The hotel is beautiful in its traditional style with extremely friendly staff who couldn't have done more. The hotel is a nice ten minute walk from the main area but offer free transfers from the hotel to the onsens. We never used it because the walk was so pleasant. The onsen they provide is lovely with an indoor and outdoor area, the traditional set meals they have was equally brilliant. We will absolutely come back here in the future!"

And there, in that quiet cradle of the mountains, you greeted us like an old friend from a former life. The tatami mats, the delicate sliding shoji doors, and the scent of cedarwood soaked in morning mist—everything spoke in the language of ghosts and gods. This was no ordinary lodging; it was a sanctuary for the refined heart. Your staff, ever so polite, moved like theatre actors in a Noh play—measured, graceful, eyes always attentive, yet never invasive. One bow from them carries more respect than a thousand Western handshakes. It was as if they could read the poetry beneath our skin. The mountain views? My dear, they were operatic. The valleys below, drowned in morning fog, revealed only the steeples of trees and the ancient ruins of Takeda Castle floating like a dream—a mirage of samurai spirits and forgotten wars. Every window framed a masterpiece, every silence became a sonnet. There was a stillness in the night, but not the empty kind. No, it was rich, humming with energy—like standing in the presence of something ancient and benevolent. We drank tea as if it were ambrosia. We walked the stone paths like monks in an afterlife. Fantastic place !"

"This hotel is beautiful, extremely clean and attention is paid to every detail. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room which was a wonderful experience. The tatami beds were so fluffy and comfortable. They provide robes and slippers so you can visit the 7 hot spring bath houses in the village. Breakfast was also very good. It’s pricey but well worth it for a one of a kind experience!"

"Enjoyable place to stay. Spa was nice though it was closed the hour before check out, so it was not super convenient. We couldn’t get double beds in the room, which was not ideal for a honeymoon. Still had a good time. "

"Wonderful stay. Friendly, professional and accommodating staff from the moment we drove up to the property to when we depart. The staff even helped to sort out our luggage delivery to the next accommodation in another city. Our hostess Matsuri was sweet, polite and gracious. The property itself is beautiful and exudes an old-world charm, and our room with in-room onsen is such a treat. The meals we had were also delicious and thoughtfully prepared and presented. We had a lovely time at Nishimuraya Honkan and hope to return again."

"Tsukimotoya Ryokan provided a memorable and authentic ryokan experience for our family. Only a few minutes from the main onsen baths (yanagiyu, ichinoyu, goshonoyu, konouyu and jizoyu). The Kaiseki breakfast and dinner were amazing and so delicious. The warm hospitality provided to us felt like we were staying with family instead of at a public ryokan. Very reasonably priced and highly recommended. "

"We stayed one night as a quick visit. The hotel is located at the end of the onsen strip. It's a older hotel. Lights are dimmer than the ones in the cities. We like that we get futons and sleep on the floor. Front desk staff speaks limited English, but they try their best to answer our questions. They will use a translator to help us understand if we have questions. They also loan out yukata for us to wear and we can onsen hop to other hotel onsen at no additional charge. We get a tour to our room from the hotel staff. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic, but you will need to reserve to get a spot. A lot of shops closed by 8 pm so book dinner at the hotel if it's available. We didn't stay long enough to enjoy the onsen at other hotels so will definitely return to try other onsens next trip. The shower room was super clean for an older hotel. Looks brand new!"
