Privately nestled in a large, bright clearing amidst a stand of mixed northern forest, Dug's House is a beautiful and welcoming Vermont family home.
A wide porch wraps around three sides of the house (two sides are covered from the elements) and offers myriad seating options to enjoy the outdoors—long benches, Adirondack chairs, and even baseball seats from Vermont's own Centennial Field, home of the Lake Monsters—with loads of space to gather and grill. Just off the front porch, a firepit beckons for an evening spent under the stars and the large backyard hill is a favorite for sledding.
An L-shaped entryway is outfitted with a storage bench, built in cubbies, boot dryers, and lots of hooks for hanging your gear. The well-equipped kitchen boasts ample cupboards and counter space and an island with seating for four. An adjacent farmhouse dining table can comfortably seat up to ten guests for shared meals and game nights. Double living areas allow for family and friends to spread out—in one, a sectional sofa is perfect for kicking back in front of the TV, while the sitting room welcomes conversation with two leather sofas facing each other in front of the electric fireplace. Beautiful post and beam architecture and hardwood floors flow throughout the main level and plentiful windows allow natural light in and frame spectacular views out toward Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak. Lovely antique statement pieces and local artwork add the perfect touch of Vermont character.
All four bedrooms are located upstairs and are named after favorite ski trails at Stowe, a sweet nod to a well-loved mountain. The primary bedroom has a queen bed, beautiful furnishings, a walk-through closet, and ensuite bathroom. The three additional guest rooms—two queen-bedded and one with two twins—share a full bath that we call a loo with a view. Thoughtful touches have been arranged throughout—vintage oriental rugs add color and warmth over the wood floors and throw blankets add coziness. A conveniently located powder room is just off the entryway on the main level.
