"Our family stayed over for a night at the hotel to visit Daisetsuzan. Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet. Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). "We cannot recommend La Vista Daisetsuzan enough. We skied Asahi-dake two days and staying here made skiing simple. The front desk was incredibly helpful and kind. The food was delicious, and the onsen was the perfect way to end each day. The hotel is older but updated in all the necessary ways. It has an ageless charm. The room was super comfortable. "Japanese standard room was very spacious, although a bit worn around the edges. The rooftop outdoor onsen had a spectacular view of the snowy mountains at sunset. The food offered in the standard half board option was ok, not great, very cafeteria like. If you're passing thru the area, it's a good option bc of the onsen, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again."

"Hotel has change owner recently thus name was changed. It provide free shuttle bus from asahikawa station return trip was a bonus. The room is abit dated. But outdoor onsen was great ! The buffet dinner and breakfast was better than my previous stay. The hotel is just beside the waterfall. If the room could be refurbish, it will be a fantastic stay. 2 nights dinner buffet was almost the same thus it will be good if different menu was provided. "

"This was such a treat of a hostel, and for a great price too. Really no complaints about the hostel itself, but be sure to know what you are getting into when you book. Bathing is done via an on-site onsen that is open from 7pm to 9am. If you are used to onsens this won't be a problem, but watch out if you've never used one before as it is a different experience. There is also nearly nothing going on in the area surrounding the hostel, so be sure to bring food with you from whatever city you are...

"We just spent five weeks in Japan and are still talking about the food we ate here. It is nothing short of spectacular. We paid quadruple at other ryokans and this one had the best food, best location and the best onsens. It’s an older place with older, big onsens and for us that was the charm of it. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind. We went skiing one day and snowshoeing the next and ended up seeing a red fox each day. Really can’t recommend this...

"Sounkyo is a quaint little resort town with not much in the way of facilities, but this hotel helps make up for that. They provided dinner and breakfast so I didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant in the freezing cold. They also have a hot spring, a place to chill and play billiards, and even a movie showing every night in which I regrettably could not partake. I also stayed during Sounkyo's Ice Waterfall Festival, which was marvelous and a bit different from the other winter festivals...

"A good hotel with onsite onsen (separate public pool for male and female)as well as 3 private onsen. And they have free icecream and light supper. Service may not be tip top excellent but still good. It at the edge of the city so having a car is advisable. "

"I enjoyed my 2 night stay here. Both breakfasts were good and plenty to eat of desired -first Japanese style, second western. Twin room was spacious and had a lounge, kettle, fridge, bedside lamp and good block out curtains. Larger than usual bathroom. Easy parking. Used the laundry facilities and had to get help as I couldn't get it to start, but the staff were good and quick to fix. My room was in the building at the back away from the road so no traffic noise. Only a little bit of noise from other room. A few KMs out of the town of Nakafurano so you need a car. Good base to tour the area. I enjoyed my stay here."

"The hotel was very convenient.If you arrive early the hotel will hold your luggage. The room was very spacious compared to Japanese standards. The room was clean. The Japanese breakfast had many items to choose from. If you’re not going around in a car this hotel is great and before the hotel from the station, the tourist information office is there. The Biei tourist office runs a tour bus around Biei twice a day. Also get your train and bus schedules. The trains comes every 2 hours after the summer season, so you have to time yourself wisely. "
