The mounds were threatened by the construction of Camp Sherman in 1917 to train troops for WWI. Today the site is managed by the National Park Services.

Great place, better management

"The cabin has many thoughtful touches and my husband and I were able to leave with no laundry and make meals, thanks to the state-of-the-art equipment on site. Some laundry essentials were included as a courtesy. The hot tub was ready for us upon arrival and there were plenty of linens available, as were there cleaning supplies. Unfortunately, the cabin was not cleaned to our standards, due to allergies, after mentioning this, the owner was more than accommodating and wanted to make things right. We appreciate the extra touches and consideration during and following our stay. Management also took care to communicate thoroughly during our stay. 5 stars for customer service."

Beautiful Cabin and Great Stay!

"This cabin is definitely the best place I’ve stayed! The pictures look exactly like the cabin and it is on a beautiful and secluded property. The owners were extremely great and communicated with us quickly during our stay. The cabin has pretty much anything you could possibly need for your stay, which was greatly appreciated! It is also less than 10 minutes away from a gas station which was very convenient in case of any necessary trips to get any necessities. "

"I recently stayed at Red Oak Retreats cabin, and it was an outstanding experience. The cabin itself was cozy, clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The surrounding scenery was stunning, especially with the fresh snowfall.Greg, the host, went above and beyond to ensure our safety and comfort. During a winter storm that brought almost a foot of snow, he was incredibly helpful in making sure we could safely get out of the path. His dedication and assistance during the storm were truly appreciated. I highly recommend Red Oak Retreats and commend Greg for his extraordinary hospitality."

"Wonderful little cabin! Very clean, comfortable, private and peaceful. Well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful views. The hot tub and propane grill were bonuses and the fireplace gave a cozy feel in the evening. You can tell the owners put great thought and intention into everything from the decor, window coverings, fresh linens and towels to a tiny Christmas tree for the season. "This property is great!! Owners are very responsive! They have everything you need right here. The rooms are spacious and the beds are very nice. Loads to do in the basement. Family birthday celebration in the Hocking quiet

"This is a beautiful property, sequestered in relatively neighborless, city-lightless country near Hocking, which our family used to celebrate mom's 70th birthday.The pool was a great diversion and all the rooms were above average in comfort. In a half star system we might give 4 1/2 stars, as neither the gas fireplaces nor the outdoor grill could be made to work, but these issues are more fyi for subsequent guests than a suggestion that they detracted from the happy time that our family had here. Our host was very responsive throughout."
