Slice of Paradise is located on one of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in Costa Rica & the beach is only a one minute walk from the property. Playa Matapalo has an abundance of wildlife including monkeys that can be seen on the property twice a day, in the early morning hours & just before sunset, you can always find a sloth or 2 hanging around in the trees on this beautiful jungle beach, & there are also scarlet macaw parrots, toucans, Lora green parrots, iguanas, and endless species of tropical birds for bird-watching on Playa Matapalo.

Our lush tropical flower gardens & grounds are a beauty to behold & we have many tropical fruit trees including several Mango trees, Cashew tree, tropical fruit Cas tree, Banana & Plantains, Central American Water Apple tree, numerous species of palm trees & more. If you would like to see Mother Nature at her finest Slice of Paradise is the place for you. Playa Matapalo is like having your own private beach all to yourself. You can walk the beach for miles on this velvety sand beach and will never step on a rock & you will probably only see a few local Ticos (Costa Ricans) fishing with a hand line. If you go for a beach walk at low tide you won't have to worry about finding your way back because you can simple follow your own footsteps in the sand that will lead you back to Slice Of Paradise. The ocean water temperature at Playa Matapalo is very warm & stays around 78 to 85 degrees the whole year around.

Slice Of Paradise on Playa Matapalo is located on the South Central Pacific Coast only 25 miles south of Manuel Antonio National Park and10 miles North of the surfing village of Dominical. We are centrally located to all the best attractions, site seeing spots, & all the tours that Costa Rica has to offer. Any tour you would like to do is just a short drive from your bungalow, and we work directly with all the tour companies in the area & will book any tour you would like to do for no charge. You could never stay at Slice Of Paradise and have enough days to do all the things you would like to do or see, there is just too much beauty & wildlife to see on this beach and the surrounding area. There is a bar, restaurant & grocery store within walking distance on the beach road from your bungalow, or you can walk10 minutes on the beach to get an authentic typical Costa Rican breakfast, lunch, or dinner & do your grocery shopping all in one stop at A-Kachete Bar, Restaurant, & Super Mercado . Matapalo has several other good restaurants & markets for doing grocery shopping. For a gourmet meal you will want to check out The Matapalo Supper Club just a 10 minute walk on the beach road from your bungalow. If you are a fan of seafood you will want to eat at The Langosta Feliz Restaurant (The Happy Lobster) for some of the freshest & best seafood in the area.

Be sure to catch the sunsets every evening on the beach. Playa Matapalo is known for its colorful sunsets, & you will be able to watch the sun disappear into the Pacific Ocean. Everyone congregates on the beach to watch the beautiful sunsets that we get every evening. They're a thing of beauty so don't forget to take your camera with you.

*The rate for the studio bungalow for 2 people is $125.00 per night.

Wonderful stay with amazing hosts
Ron and Giselle were amazing hosts for our wonderful stay at Slice of Paradise. We were entranced by literally hundreds of butterflies as we strolled the 100 meters to the amazing beach; where we could choose to sit in the sun or under the shade of the palms, as we enjoyed the ocean breeze, ocean surf, and amazing sunsets. Ron and Gazelle were very responsive to our needs and requests. They were particularly helpful in sharing local knowledge regarding the excellent area excursions available to enhance our enjoyment of the Costa Rican Pura Vida hospitality. Everything was very easy and we had a wonderful time Thank you, Ron and Giselle! Tom & Lora

A hidden gem.
What an amazing time spent as this hidden gem!! From the nightly visits from the monkey's to BBQ's in the gazebo, bike ride on the beach & horseback riding. My family felt at home. Ron, the owner, was an amazing host. I can't say enough about our time at this home.

Peaceful Playa Matapalo
Good value for the price. Bicycles and boogie boards a bonus! Bicycled north through quiet wetlands to end of road & even more remote stretch of beach. Drive to Playa Baru, Dominical & Ventanas for better boogie board waves. Ron, owner, is a wealth of information .

Slothing good time!
We had a truly fantastic time at Ron's bungalow! As we arrived there was a sloth hanging out right at the driveway, definitely foreshadowing the relaxing time we were about to have. The walk from the bungalow to the beach is less than 100m, and the small shop and restaurants in Matapalo are a short drive or walkable themselves. The bungalow itself had everything we needed. We cooked in the kitchen and spent the mornings drinking coffee at the pavilion. We spent a fair amount of time hanging at the beach with chairs and surfboards provided by Ron. Most importantly, we caught the sunset every night! We even grilled on the beach. On another day we took a wildlife sight seeing tour in Siepre with a guide organized by Ron; he was such a help with so much. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and could not recommend Ron and his bungalow enough!

Wonderful!
My husband and I spent 5 nights at Slice of Paradise and had a great visit. Our bungalow was extremely inviting and had all the amenities we needed. Ron and Roberta were extremely warm and hospitable hosts. By the end of our visit we felt like we were saying good bye to family! Roberta's home baked treats were delicious and a special surprise! We were able to use the surfboards and bikes everyday. We biked all around the local area and had some great adventures. We also really enjoyed the horseback ride that Roberta helped us arrange with Claudia. We took our ride at lowtide so we could walk along the beach and we experienced the most breathtaking sunset. Everyday was perfect! It was hard to leave.

Stunning Sunsets, Monkeys, Macaws and more!
My partner, and I can’t say enough about our stay at Slice Of Paradise- the Surf Shack! Ron was a phenomenal host and went out of his way to make us feel welcome, at home and even had some “cold beverages”ready for us upon our arrival that I had requested when I booked the accommodation. 😊 Ron immediately gave us a tour of the Surf Shack, which was fully stocked and included everything that was listed on VRBO. Ron showed us the beautiful beach which was a very short walk across the road where we spent lots of time swimming, walking and enjoying the beautiful sunsets! Ron arranged a private tour for us to go on a Mangrove Boat ride at a very reasonable cost - which we HIGHLY recommend. Ron was available when needed, for instance brought me some Benadryl late in the evening after I had a reaction to something. He also invited us to partake in the festivities he was hosting on New Year’s Eve (fireworks, dancing, traditional tico food) etc. which was a great way to ring in the new year! He even booked us dinner reservations! Ron always included us with things going on in the village, but we never felt pressured to go if we didn’t want to. We highly recommend renting the Surf Shack - we will be returning again! Amanda & Rob

The location of this property is great; not exactly right on the beach like we thought but great
Ron takes AMAZING care to make sure that his guests know the best places to eat and which tours are the best!! He arranged an all day boat tour for us which was fantastic; we saw whales, dolphins and swam with turtles and beautiful fish!! The monkey show is surreal and makes this location in the jungle such a unique experience!!! The studio bungalow has great air conditioning but it was lacking some updates such as a toilet and mattress and a clean fridge which are important. The kitchen needs some more utensils for the true chef at heart such as tongs, good knives and a great frying pan. We didn't mind eating out but part of the reason we stay in a Home Away is to do some cooking. The gazebo with the hammocks is a perfect spot to relax and listen to the sounds of the jungle and the ocean at the same time!!! Rob definitely wants his guests to be happy during their stay and this wasn't much appreciated!!!

GARAGE STUDIO - NOT A BUNGALOW Just Do NOT Agree with these Reviews!!
We are really very flexible, but our vacation could easily have been ruined! We made reservations 3 weeks before our stay but we were not allowed to cancel when friends ended up being in another town and offered to share their place. I was OK with that (45 day policy) even though we missed out on a great & fun opportunity. However, when we arrived, we were casually told that because another guest had decided to stay, we would be placed in the "smaller bungalow" instead of the larger one that we had reserved for our first 3 of 5 nights-so much for those reservations. We were lead to a sweltering studio room above the garage. A noisy, rasping air conditioner, with controls removed! had not been turned on even though I called long before our arrival - so we laid naked on the PLASTIC covered mattress - in the TROPICS! All sounds of the ocean obliterated just waiting for some relief. Makes it like sleeping wrapped in a shower curtain! There is only one rocking chair in the room, so I guess someone has to sit on the kiddie pool of a mattress - or sit at the little bar (pictured) to relax and read a book. My daughter was graciously offered to have a mattress put on the floor, but there was already no room to turn around without bumping into each other. THERE IS NO BALCONY or any outdoor seating for either place (unless that would be the steps leading up to the room?). The jungle view is the parking lot with beautiful trees, but we could not see that from our small windows because we had to stay naked in order to breath. I have given a very accurate portrayal of the place. It is new, small and clean (except for the toothpaste splattered bathroom sink that was overlooked). It would be an okay alternative for one person who wants to spend all their time across the road at the beach - which is magnificent and private, but not safe for swimming. Be prepared, as for almost everywhere in CR, for bumpy long dirt road access. Grocery shopping is a half hour away in Quepos - bring a cooler! There are NO supplies - soap, spices, paper towels - so pick up everything you might possibly need. Really, for the same cost you can have a view and space and outdoor seating. Our vacation "could have been ruined" but I ended up leaving in tears at dawn the next morning. For a few dollars more we found our paradise! I only gave 3 stars instead of 2, because Roberta was gracious about us leaving - though I say this without having checked my credit card statement.

We had a great time at Slice of Paradise. Rob was an outstanding host. He was always available.
This place is perfectly situated halfway between Quepos and Uvita. We watched monkeys feed on the bananas, walked right out to the beach. And staged our planned activities from here. Our host, Ron, was excellent. Always available and very knowledgeable about the area. He offered great suggestions on where to go and what to see. We will definitely book again on our next trip back to Costa Rica.

Affordable option - Pura Vida Costa Rica
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks to Ron's hospitality. The beach was practically deserted and just stunning (jungle meets the sea). The water was so warm, perfect for jumping in the large waves and boogie boarding. We especially enjoyed our day exploring the towns south of Matapalo - lots of waterfalls, caves and quaint beach towns. Our 9 year old loved the morning "monkey show" outside our bungalow, watching them feast on Ron's bananas. We spent a day in Quepos at Manuel Antonio and a catamaran/snorkle/sunset cruise. It was a good recommendation from Ron based on what we thought we wanted to do but, honestly, but felt too crowded, touristy and over-rated. We enjoyed exploring on our own far better - it felt more authentic. We would recommend checking out RainMakers north of Quepos. It's a suspension bridge meets waterfall swimming kind of place (but way less touristy than Mistico in LaFortuna/Arenal). Overall, we had a wonderful stay and are plotting about how and when we can go back. Thanks for everything, Ron!

Rooms were clean and comfy. Ron was amazing. The nearby beach is beautiful and private.
We stayed at Slice of Paradice for several nights in March 2018 with our 3 teenage kids. There was plenty of room for everyone. The gazebo right outside was perfect for dozing in the hammocks and coffee in the morning. The nearby beach was lovely-soft sand and almost empty. We saw sloths and white faced monkeys. Ron was helpful and attentive. We would definitely go back!!

Wish we could have stayed longer!
We had a great time staying at Ron’s bungalow. There is much to see and do in the area and Ron was very helpful in giving us advice on where to go and what to see. He also set up a zip line tour and sunset cruise for us. We couldn’t have asked for better hospitality - Thank you Ron! Hope to be back again one day for a longer stay!

Great spot, low key, 100 yards from the beach.
We loved our stays at Ron's Slice of Paradise. It was much better suited to our family than the hustle and bustle of touristy Manuel Antonio. Ron showed us a couple of nearby sloths. (there are a lot of them if you keep your eyes open). He also had a great beginner surfboard that he leant me. The sea was fairly rough (3-4 ft waves) while we were there, so probably not ideal for small kids or weak swimmers.... but we had a great time.

Such a great place!!!
My wife and I, along with our 2 teens stayed at Slice of Paradise for almost 2 weeks. We loved everything about it! The location is great...practically on the beach. We had almost the whole beach to ourselves, and had a good time boogie boarding and riding beach cruisers. It's close enough to buzz down to Dominical or up to Manuel Antonio/Quepos. There were a couple of good food options right in Matapalo. It was nice to swing in the hammocks under the gazebo and hop on the WiFi. Ron was a great host! He took us kayaking through the mangroves, helped us book a snorkeling cruise, SUP tour, waterfall hikes, etc. Thanks for a memorable vacation!

Wonderful Bungalow in a very relaxing setting.
Ron's bungalow is located about 20 min south of Quepos and Manuel Antonio and about 20 mins north of Dominical. It is located in the small town of Matapalo (laid back and relaxed). The bungalow has a full kitchen with most everything you need to prepare meals. It has two window AC units (one upstairs and one down) which is more than enough to cool the bungalow. The view from the balcony off the bedroom upstairs is a grass pasture and mountains as a backdrop. We saw birds, butterflies and iguanas on a daily basis. The monkeys came for the bananas Ron bought and hung between his house and the bungalow. It was an amazing experience...They would spend 30 minutes or more jumping from tree to tree and from house to tree gathering and eating the bananas. There were probably 15-30 monkeys each time. Simply amazing and a great experience. Ron has built a huge gazebo which contains a few hammocks and lounging chairs. While lounging one day we had a neighbors cow come up and say hi. The beach is across a small dirt road with easy access...It takes about 1 min to walk there. The beach and the dark sand was incredible. The beach was nearly empty everyday (4-6 people in sight). We saw maybe 20 people at once during a sunset, other than that you have a few miles in either direction of vacant beach. The dark sand is the finest and most soft I have ever seen (I have been to Hawaii, Honduras, Mexico, Cayman, Jamaica). Everyday was beautiful and sunny. The location is perfect for someone who wants to relax and not be in a touristy area, yet the tourist areas are only a short drive away. We rented a car in San Jose and had no issues the entire time we were there. Ron is a great host, he has been there a long time and knows where to go to see whatever Costa Rica has to offer.

Secluded bungalow in the jungle, across from the beach
This bungalow was perfect for my family of four (two of which were teen agers). We had plenty of space for everyone to sleep, live and move about with out getting on each other's nerves too much. But it was cozy enough that we had some good family time. There are many fruit trees on the property and much wildlife right outside the door. I loved the sloth and the monkeys, but was also fascinated with the leaf-cutter ants. Ron let us use the surf boards (if you need lessons, have Ron call Choco and he'll get you up and surfing in just a few tries!) and bicycles which was handy. We could ride the bikes to the store, to Peter's for breakfast, and also to the Guava Lodge to watch the soccer game on TV. (Yeah, there's no TV in the bungalow, but who goes to Costa Rica to watch TV?)It was a great place to stay for our family, and with the surf boards and bikes thrown in, it was a fantastic value. If I were going to Playa Matapalo again, I'd stay here without hesitation. (PS- Make sure you go eat at Peter's at least once. It's where the dirt road makes a 90* turn to the left and is just on the right after you get on the paved road, with an open-air dining area and nice landscaping. Fantastic cook - we ate 3 of 4 breakfasts here and dinner, too.)

Amazing
My fiance and I stayed with Ron for 4 days, and everything was perfect. We changed our dates and Ron bent over backwards to help it all come together. This place is right across the street from the amazing beach, but it is a little walk to get to a store or restaurant. Over all, I will probably be back to stay again if my travels bring me that way again. He bought a giant bunch of bananas and we got a free monkey show from the back deck for a couple evenings. :) Wifi works from the deck of main house, but not from bungalow. Not a huge deal. Very well kept and you can tell he loves his home and showing his guests his slice of paradise. Sunsets alone are worth staying here for.

Great place to stay!
My husband Bruce and I reserved our place of stay in Playa Matapalo a few months before our arrival, and we were not disappointed. Ron the owner of the Slice of Paradise provided everything we needed, and he even was our guide for one day while kayaking the Savegre River and into the jungle. We met some wonderful people during our stay in the Matapalo and Dominical area. It was sad to leave Costa Rica but we will surely return next year we hope!

Perfect spot to chill
We arrived at Slice of Paradise early evening and we were happily greeted by Ron and he got us quickly settled in. We had driven quite a ways from El Castillio and we were both tired and hungry. Ron suggested a great seafood restaurant near by and that did not disappoint! There is also a small soda right around the corner run by a German couple that served a very nice dinner. Lots of wildlife, beautiful beaches that were not crowded, national park right down the street and tranquil sunsets. I'm sure there are many tours within reasonable driving distances but for us this part of the trip was for pure relaxation and that's exactly what we did. Pura Vida Ron & thank you again for your hospitality.

Perfect Spot With Perfect Host!
We went to Ron's place in Dec 2013 with our 2 years old girl. We still talk about this wonderful place regularly. We definitely want to go back. It was the perfect place for us, so many things to say don't know where to start. Ron is the perfect host too. I agree with all the other nice reviews. This is the perfect place for you too if you like tranquility, nature, wildlife, nice people, good surf, good swims, good long beach walks, monkey and bird watching, beautiful sunsets and so so so much more. Paradise we agree!
