"Nagataki was better than a hotel stay. We stayed for one night before walking the Nakasendo. We had our own little Japanese cottage set in a lovely garden. Meals were served in our cottage and were simply amazing. The food presentation was a work of art and absolutely delicious and inventive. The onsen was beautiful and had a gorgeous view out to the garden. The staff were so lovely even though not a great deal of English was spoken. We were picked up and dropped off at Nakatsagawa station....

"The walls are paper-thin, you can hear neighbor's TV. There is a smell of mold in the room. The shared bath was not clean. The futons are very thin as well. The communal toilet slippers were disgustingly dirty, and no other slippers inside the hotel were provided (you walk on very old carpets and floors in the hotel hallways barefooted). "This was a very memorable place that I visited. It is in the rural area of japan, you can really feel the realness of the area. It's in gifu however it's definitely not a tourist trap area. The owners of the establishment reminded me of my grandmother. You are not getting a hotle with this stay more of a B&B, it definitely felt like I a was sleeping over a japanese grandma's house. They also gave grate advice on a nice local restaurant at the bottom of a locals Mt that you can hike after to see...
