Enjoy the quintessential Alta experience at this outdoor enthusiast's haven right on the banks of Little Cottonwood Canyon Creek, where you'll be treated to an enviable location near the base of Alta’s Westward Ho ski run. As one of the first homes in Alta (built by one of the directors of the Alta Ski School), this home has been beautifully updated to retain the charm of the original structure while offering lavish modern amenities. At the end of a day on the slopes, you can curl up in front of the gas fireplace, read a good book or watch your favorite movie, take a nice soak in the private hot tub on the private balcony, and soak in majestic views of Mt. Superior and Alta Ski Area.

Whether you're planning to watch the snow fall in the winter, wake up to the sounds of the neighboring creek in the summer, or catch a glimpse of the spectacular fall foliage, this home was made for lovers of the outdoors. The house is a short walk or free Alta shuttle ride from the base area lifts, providing you with easy access to some of the most challenging terrain in North America along with a variety of restaurants and shops. The avid skier will also find some of the best backcountry in the world nearby. Come summertime, you'll be within walking distance of hiking trails at Alta and Snowbird, as well as wildflower fields, other natural wonders, and the Hellgate Cliffs - a world-class rock climbing destination.

THINGS TO KNOW:
Open parking with no garage. There is only ONE assigned parking spot.
However, due to the limited amount of public, overnight parking and numerous restrictions on parking and vehicular access during winter storms, it is advised to avoid taking a private car up the canyon to Alta. Parking regulations are strictly enforced.
AWD/4WD: M + S or M/S tires are the minimum requirement. Traction devices such as chains, snow socks, etc., or 3-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) tires are also acceptable and provide the most reliable traction in severe winter conditions to make it safely up the canyon and to the home.
Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is required year-round.
This rental is located on floor 2.
This home is not ideal for young children or guests with mobility issues, as you must walk over 100 feet to reach the front door.
The trail is snowy in winter and snow boots are recommended.
Trip insurance is strongly suggested to purchase during winter visits.
There is a caretaker living on-site in the basement.
No pets/Dogs are allowed in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
Guest entry instructions: This rental utilizes an E-lock, a digital lock that requires a unique code to enter. This code is reset after each guest's stay.
Security camera details: There is an active surveillance camera looking out the front door.

Fantastic cabin with ski in access
Our group of 8 adults had an excellent stay here - the home was well equipped and the location is fantastic for skiing. The town shuttle was easy to use for getting to the lifts each day.

Creekside Chalet
Overall it was a nice home and super convenient to the Alta Lodge and ski area, which is what we were looking for. The description of the property notes that an all wheel drive is required (even in summer), and that it is a long walk to get to the home - TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!! It's a beautiful location, but not easy to get luggage or older people in and out of.

Great house down a snowy path
We loved our stay, and the house was great. Be advised the walk down/up the snowy path can be a little treacherous hauling gear, even with the sleds that are available.

Great rustic hideaway.
We loved our stay here this year. The place was clean and the caretake (onsite, downstairs) was friendly, easy to get a hold of and she offered to help with the luggage. I declined since I had a group of 15 year olds to do the work instead. There is a bit of a haul getting from the parking lot to the front door. It's about 50 yards (my guess) that ends with a narrow, snowy stairway to the front door. But, they do have a sled by the parking lot to help haul your stuff. The only negative is we did have to shovel out the steps when we got there, but that isn't worth subtracting a star. I have that job the kids.

Special Mountain Side Cabin
This house was beautiful. It is 30 minutes from down town Salt Lake City but you would think it is hours away. You are right in the mountains with a roaring river right next to the house. The sound of the water was so peaceful every night. The view is unbelievable. Mountains all around and the master bedroom has a view that can’t be beat. We used the hot tub every day as it got cool at night even when it was 90 plus in the city. It was roughly 20 degrees cooler up at the cabin than in the city. Unlimited hiking during the day. It is on an extremely steep driveway. Getting to the cabin was fine in June with a compact car but the driveway definitely requires 4 wheel drive, even without snow. It is very steep with gravel. There is a caretaker that lives in an apartment under the cabin. She was helpful when we had some issues with the cars and other than that you wouldn’t know she was there. Perfect size for my 6 family members. Very secluded. We saw no neighbors during our 6 day stay.

Comfortable chalet for leaf season in Alta
We really enjoyed our stay in this chalet. It has a special location, nestled among some trees and next to a small, gurgling stream below. We enjoyed the hot tub and cooked a fine meal in the complete kitchen. All of the beds were very comfortable. It was a perfect home base for our adventures hiking and October leaf season on the Cecret Lake hike in Alta and the Willow Lake hike on Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Wonderful
This house is amazing. The walk in is a little steep, so that may be an issue for some, but the setting is beautiful, and the house itself is wonderful and very spacious for it's small footprint. Would definitely stay here again.

Kitsch Ski House
Other users have summarized well. This place feels like walking into a ski cabin from the 70s or 80s, which is not surprising given it was one of the first places built in Alta. The floors creek, not a ton of sound insulation so you can hear everything in any part of the house, but the place has a nice charm to it. Notwithstanding its age, its a decent place to stay. Plenty of rooms and beds, close to Alta or Snowbird, reasonably clean, good views, decent hot tub. And for the most part, stuff in the house works - the heating, hot tub, boot warmer, etc. One other nice touch is that there is a humidifier that actually works in every single bedroom. That was much appreciated given the dry UT air. Though our stay was pleasant, our experience had a few hiccups. The coffee machine was full of an old pot of coffee and coffee grounds. The caretakers clothes were all in/around the washer and dryer. Toilet broke (was fixed promptly) during our stay. One thing that was a bit strange, nearly every light or electrical device needed to be plugged in. For example, we had to plug in almost all the bedside lamps if we wanted to use them and we had to plug in the DirecTV upstairs, which was not obvious at all and required us to reach out to the property manager for guidance. Finally, the kitchen stocked items were pretty spartan. Pots/pans/plates were fine, but there were hardly any spices/salt/pepper type stuff. As with any rental property, nothing is guaranteed, but given how remote Alta is, recommend anyone renting this place plan to bring all the basics, because there is not a great grocery up in Alta/Snowbird. One thing noted in the description is the caretaker lives in an apartment beneath the house and the laundry is shared with him. We did not have as much direct interaction with him, though this did mean that anything we needed fixing was addressed promptly. Some people may view this as a positive, as he can be quite helpful, some as a negative as he is very close to the renters. Pros: Space efficient: 2 queens and 2 kings plus two double futons. The beds are of pretty high quality as well, not the typical collapsed mattress in lots of old ski houses. Even the futons were good. Location: Quick to Alta or Snowbird. Usability: Not big, just a pretty usable place with all the bedrooms, kitchen, hot tub, closets, etc. Humidifiers in each room was great. Cons: Access for little kids. The pathway down/up to the parking lot is a pain to lug little kids back and forth, though I guess it would make for a good sledding hill. Parking: In the winter, there is one spot, and its pretty tight. Getting in and out of the parking lot can be treacherous with slippery conditions too. Having only one spot for a house that can easily sleep ~10 people is tight. Neutral On site caretaker: Most find this good, but some could be turned off by it. A little old: charming but a little rickety vs. some rentals

Not where map said but was cozy by the stream
All in all the property was good the upper floors creak a lot so don’t sleep down stairs great view of the creek. Was very comfortable parking was on a steep gravel slope so need to walk a little ways for flat ground. Parking The care taker moved his jeep so one car could park below with only 5 steps. The kitchen was full stocked internet was fast and had Dish so didn’t miss Hockey play offs All in all was nice place disappointing it was not next to the Venue o well.

Summer in Alta
Great location. Alta was a blast during summer. Multiple trailheads nearby. This property is right along a creek. Coffee/drinks on the deck overlooking the creek are a must. One issue we were unaware prior to check-in was the fact that a resident is living in the basement and sharing washer and dryer.

Great cabin!!! 4x4 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Super cool cabin, great location. Listing says 4x4 recommended before April, honestly you need it year round with the gravel. Our Sienna got stuck. Also, internet is DSL so it’s almost like not having internet. Having said this.... the place was amazing otherwise. Right next to a stream so peaceful and beautiful.

Winter Adventure
What a fun hideaway for a winter weekend with friends. The house was comfortable and clean. Amazing location. I’m not sure the description quite does justice to winter access to the house. We’re an active group of adults (who live and ski in the west) so it wasn’t an issue, but when it snows getting in and out of the house will require some leg work (the cabin has a sled so you can haul your gear up and down). Parking is also a little complicated. We worked it out, but the small lot is shared with all the houses tucked in off E. Peruvian Acre Rd and it is extremely tight. I wouldn’t recommend having more than 1 vehicle in the winter. The caretaker lives downstairs, which was fine with us (he was also very responsive to needs) but is good to know for future guests who might desire more privacy. All in all, it’s a very cool place and retains much of that old Alta character we know and love.

Exactly what we were looking for.
The Creekside Chalet was exactly as described and was perfect for our ski vacation getaway. It was warm and cozy and the hot tub and gas fireplace were really enjoyable. We met two of the caretakers who live downstairs and they were very friendly and helpful. The kitchen was stocked with the essentials and we had all we needed to cook breakfasts and dinners. While we enjoyed the DirectTV, there were also games and movies/DVD player provided. Although the king sized bed in the master was two twins pushed together, the bedding was high quality and very comfortable. You could not ask for a better location relative to Alta skiing and we will definitely look to stay here again in the future.

Octoberfest Weekend at Alta
We had a lovely stay at this Creekside Cabin. It was perfect for our family. We had three famlies of sisters husbands and all our kids come and it fit us fine. We had a little issue figuring out how to turn on the oven but we were able to figure it out after a bit of troubleshooting. The patios are both wonderful and it's so close to many trails and the Oktoberfest at Snowbird we would stay again. Thanks!

Great cabin in the woods
This was a great little cabin in the woods. Plenty of room for people to have some space to themselves but also some great areas for everyone to gather. It's off the beaten path enough to feel secluded but also have some restaurants and activities within a few minutes. Definitely recommend staying here!
