Not Quite What We Were Hoping For...
We were expecting a well kept guest house with easy access to San Ignacio based on the listing details. There were a few items not quite as advertised that resulted in a less than stellar stay.
The house is not fully air conditioned, only the bedrooms have window units which left us uncomfortably warm in the kitchen and living room areas. We paid a significant cleaning fee but when we arrived, the house was dirty and needed vacuuming of rugs and floors. There were no coffee filters for the coffee pot so we used paper towels to make coffee.
The house seemed recently converted into a rental property, walls were painted only halfway up wall, light fixtures were burned out, the tub was filthy and we didn't want to put our bare feet in it. There was only a single sheet on each bed with no blankets available in the house. The WIFI did not work when we arrived requiring a visit by property owner and technician. The door to patio was jammed/locked requiring a separate visit by property owner and repairman. The patio overlooks an overflowing dumpster and stray dogs wandered around and barked throughout the night. The hillside view is of power-lines and neighboring fences and houses. The house itself is located in a remote, lower-end neighborhood in Santa Elena.
The only nearby restaurant is a fast food burger place and you must cross the busy Western highway to get to it and the grocery store. The town of San Ignacio is a 29 minute walk (Google says 27 min.), not 10 minutes as advertised. It is not walkable, especially along the highway at night, you must have a car or taxi.
Kera is trying hard to make this a desirable rental but there are many things to be addressed before it's a comfortable rental for the price being asked.
