Relax in this beautiful ancient cottage, just steps from artisan bakers, delis, famous Pubs and restaurants and a myriad of interesting shops and ancient buildings in this truly picturesque historic town of Saffron Walden .
The cottage was built at a time when the famous Saffron fields were creating the wealth for this beautiful Market Town.
Please note that we provide one travel cot and high chair for free and can accpet a maximum of 2 infants.
Well behave doggies are welcome and we can accept up to 2 well behaved doggies in this cottage (no cats), the price is £25 pw per dog or £15 for less than a week – this payment can be taken after booking.
The owners Helen and Alex provide you with a lovely breakfast hamper, fresh flowers and a bottle of Fizz help you unwind. There are basics like coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, etc, in the cottage.
Cottage Walk Through
You enter the cottage into a large downstairs area almost split in two by beams to provide a lovely dining area which extends into a very well equipped and impressive kitchen. To the right on the other side of the beams is a large cosy sitting area with a big wood burning stove to relax in front of and French doors opening out onto the sunny enclosed garden.
The beautiful broad wood floor and the ancient exposed beams, clearly show the age of the cottage and create a special atmosphere for guests to savour.
Upstairs there is a large double bedroom and small double bedroom, in between them is a lovely bathroom with a bath and a separate shower.
The Cottage is in a quiet cul de sac of wonderful ancient houses, so there is no noise from passing traffic and there is unrestricted parking in the lane.
The Garden
French doors lead out into the sunny garden, which has a patio area for dining outside and a lawn to lie on in summer.
The garden is completely enclosed, and lit up at night for you to enjoy a drink before venturing out to explore all that Saffron Walden has to offer.
Outside
Miller Cottage is in a quiet little lane, just a few steps away from the centre of Saffron Walden, where you will find excellent artisan bakers and lovely tea rooms, cafes many interesting pubs and lots of good restaurants. Saffron Walden is a picturesque Medieval Town particularly rich in historic buildings it has had a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays since 1141, offering a wide range of stalls from fruit and vegetables, to olives, bread, whole foods, fish, flowers, antiques and collectables, clothing, jewellery and more, The market has achieved awards for being ‘The best small market’ in the Great British Market Awards. Jamie Oliver lives nearby and is an enthusiastic shopper at the market.
Local Area
Some of the outstanding features of the town are the beautiful St Mary’s Church, the Old Sun Inn, the Eight Bells Pub, the Cross Keys Pub and the Saffron Walden Museum, which is a Natural History Museum with everything from Mammoth tusks to Mummies, The Castle Keep ruins and the stunning Bridge End Garden with its immaculate Victorian Gardens and huge Maze are close by. There is also The Fry Art Gallery and the attractive Common, with its mile long turf labyrinth and there are even local Vineyards that can be visited.
The town is host to many arts and crafts venues, such as the Saffron Screen, a hugely successful Cinema, a state-of-the-Art Concert Hall, as well as literary, music and maze festivals. A visit to the beautiful Saffron Walden Library, Fairycroft House Arts and Media Centre, Saffron Screen, Saffron Hall and Fry Art Gallery will fill you with enthusiasm and appreciation of the many activities that are on offer in this lovely little town.
Close by is the wonderful Audley End House and Gardens. This is the perfect retreat for a great day out with so much to do and see.
The countryside and tiny, picturesque villages around Saffron Walden are a joy to explore.
The Imperial War Museum at Duxford is just a 20-minute drive away and this offers a really amazing experience.
Cambridge is another short drive from the cottage and there are some lovely markets towns nearby to explore like St Ives.

Bikes: Please check with Helen that these are available before you arrive to avoid disappointment if they are in for maintenance
Please let us know if you are bringing a baby. We provide a travel cot with a mattress, and a high chair but please bring bedding
Dog: Water bowl is provided and a 'pooch pack'.
Helen & Alex will contact all guests prior to their arrival at Miller Cottage to advise them of the key safe code , to provide information about Parking and to give them a brief overview of the check in and check out process.

The key code access means you can let yourself in as late as you want after 3pm - if you would like Helen to personally show you round please arrange this with her and it would have to be between 3 - 6pm, but she is a busy nhs person so may not be able to meet you.
