Aleiki Villa - simply wonderful
We spent two weeks in the cozy and nicely decorated villa. We loved to sit in the little garden. The villa is situated just around the corner of the “main street” with three bakeries. The beautiful beach is just a little walk along the coast away. We were surprised by the variety of tavernas. Our favorites: Restaurant To Kastro and Andreas tavern. Nigel and Fiona were perfect hosts. We hope to come back soon!

As authentic as it comes! Fabulous.
We stayed 5 nights in Methoni and 2 at Fiona's other property up in the olive groves of Gialova. Both were fantastic and a great mix and match for our wonderful holiday in the Peloponnese. Our Methoni stay felt as traditional as it gets! A beautifully rustic and welcoming home with loads of space and character. Lizards in the gorgeous back garden, church bells at regular(ish) intervals and comfy beds in cool rooms. Best of all, Fiona was bang on time for check in, charming, warm, funny and full of great suggestions for things to do locally. Despite my best intentions, life on holiday with three children means I still haven't finished Gerald Durrell's 'My Family and Other Animals' but a small part of me felt like I'd lived a bit of that same simple, curious, life staying at this wonderful house in a charming seaside setting. Thank you Fiona, we hope to meet again.

Super host charming house
Nothing to add to that title. Oh just maybe Fiona the landlord (landlady?) whose presence is reassuring, efficient, and friendly (meaning you want her to be your friend). Perfect stay.

Lovely traditional Greek house
The house is just amazing - this was our second time and we hope to be back. Very clean and well equipped traditional house. A lavish garden to relax. Child friendly with lots of toys. Three toilets which is a real bonus with kids. Just perfect. The hosts Nigel and his wife Fiona are very helpful and kind. On arrival a bowl of cherry and melons were waiting for us - thank you.

Lovely place
We had a great holiday. House is brilliant for families - lots of space and a garden for kids to play. Family who owns the house is very helpful and nice. House was clean and the kitchen had a wide range of utensils. Lots to see and do in the area. I would return tomorrow : ).

We'll remember this!!
We have had a wonderful time here enjoying Methoni and Villa Aleiki. Our three children will remember this for a long time to come. Such a great set-up for three young children and great kindness from Nigel and Fiona. The only downside is letting the children know that dinner out every night at 9 pm will not go on forever !

We planned to visit many places !
We came here with so many places planned to visit with an agenda for every day and then Methoni worked its charm on us and we have just relaxed and fallen in love with the place. The Villa has been fantastic, perfect location and you feel like a true local. We'd recommend going around Methoni Castle, Zanzibar Beach bar for lunch and seeing the sunset, Voidikilia beach and Koroni town with its views from the castle. Palio Historia restaurant is excellent and so is the bar opposite with Hercules (!) probably the best bar owner ever ! Get a Cappucino Freddo, relax and enjoy.

We very much enjoyed Aleiki villa and Methoni
My wife and I enormously enjoyed our four weeks in Aleiki. We are both retired; our son and daughter, in their mid-twenties, joined us for a few days, and were as enthusiastic about the villa and about Methoni as we were. The villa and garden had plenty of room for us, was well equipped and in good order. Nigel and Fiona were very helpful. Between us we have had many holidays in Greece, mainly in islands, with a few on the mainland (I was in Kalamata and the Mani for a week rather a long time ago). Methoni was for us a real find. We arrived after the hottest weather (which was a plus for us), also after the tourist peak. Methoni is a delightful place – not at all over-touristified (and we would guess much the same even in July and August). The villa is well placed for the beach (sandy), and for shops and tavernas/kafenions (of which we ate and drank in ten or a dozen – a great variety which we much enjoyed). Methoni castle is quite extraordinary. We hired a car after ten days or so, but you don’t need one to get around Methoni. We would certainly recommend the villa and Methoni to friends and family.

Lovely authentic Greek villa
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely authentic Greek villa in a peaceful back street in beautiful Methoni. Fiona and Nigel made sure we were happy and were very helpful with local information. On their recommendation we found the fabulous waterfall at Shinnalaka, as well as Golden Bay and the stunning horseshoe bay of Voldokillia. Nigel and Fiona organised a hire car for us which was very reasonable and easy pickup and drop off. They left us some of their delicious olive oil too. The villa is comfortable and beautifully decorated with an efficient shower and 2 loos, always useful. The local church bells are a bit of a surprise but you do get used to them. Will look forward to returning sometime soon.

Typical Greek villa, filled with calm and comfort.
The house is fantastic, it has everything you need for living in a house. The interior has a unique style and the garden is really something special, perfect for calm ad peace. Since the house is next to the city main street you have all the shops at a 2 minute walk, and if wanted you can completely forget using the car. Temperature as well as the view is perfect and you'll immediately notice the bells playing every hour. The house owners are absolutely 2 wonderful people, kind, available and very pleasing to chat with. We also really enjoyed staying with the new arrival: a small and friendly cat. Surely a place we'll never forget and a vacation of unique beauty.

Great house at Methoni
We've stayed in the Villa Aleiki for one week and it was just great. The house is charming and very practical (there is two bathrooms, a micro-wave, a toaster, and much more than two plates and three glasses which is wonderful for a renting in Greece!), the garden is lovely and the owners very nice and ready to help. It's very close to the (small and charming) main street and the area is beautiful, especially the sandy beach of Voidokilia.

Nice place for Christmas week.
Lovely and comfortable place in the center of Methoni. Quiet and friendly, few tourists and reasonable very good restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores. A place of long walks and ancient history, friendly and one we want to come back to. House was clean and, although the owners were gone, they left a nice Christmas tree and under it, a gift for our daughter.

Wonderful villa... and perfect for children!
This was the second time we'd stayed at one of Nigel and Fiona's properties and with a 3 year old in tow this time, Villa Aleiki was absolutely perfect. Its garden is completely enclosed so it feels very safe, and there were lots of distractions in the house (DVDs, books, toys) when the beach, the sun and sandcastles all got too much! Methoni is as pretty and friendly as before, and you can buy all the essentials in the town. We spent every day the beautiful beach, using the hotel's loungers (for the price of a coffee!) or sitting reading in the wonderful garden at the Villa. Nigel and Fiona were so helpful - before, during and after our holiday. We have recommended this villa and location to our friends, and we all very much look forward to spending another holiday at Villa Aleiki.

Perfect Family Holiday Rental
Our family spent three and a half weeks in Greece. We spent the first two in Nigel and Fiona’s villas in Methoni and we spent the last week at their place in Gialova. Each of the locations was wonderful. The accommodations were even nicer than the pictures convey, they were extremely clean, and well-stocked. Furthermore, Nigel and Fiona were glad to provide everything we needed from DVDs for our kids (and the villas were great for kids with plenty of room) to tips about sites to see to advice on the best boat rentals and most beautiful beaches to explore. The location of the villas is also perfect—we loved exploring the Peloponnese from Methoni and Gialova. These villas—and their gracious owners—helped make for a perfect holiday for our family.

A safe beach for children
My family have stayed in both accommodations offered by Fiona and Nigel and our most recent visit was spent in their house in Methoni this October for 10 days. The house in Methoni is a ten minute walk to the beach and three minutes to a local supermarkets and cafes. The house has been refurnished to a comfortable standard with everything you will need. They have managed to keep the traditional feel of the house with the original wooden shutters on the windows and old log timber ceilings. You feel like you are in a local house and not in a modern holiday apartment. It has a beautiful little private garden with lots of shade for the hot sunny days. The beach at Methoni is fantastic probably the safest beach for young children I have seen. The beach is clean the water beautiful and is very shallow for at least 20 metres with a very slight increase in depth. Our 9 month old baby boy loved crawling along the waters edge and exploring up to his chest. From the beach there is an amazing view of islands, colourful small local fishing boats and the largest stone fort in the Mediterranean which is well worth spending an afternoon exploring. This part of Greece has been mostly untouched by foreign tourists so entry to the castle is free and you are free to roam at your leisure. There is a hotel set back from the beach which has a great veranda and bar with views of the castle, sea and boats perfect for a fresh orange juice or cold beer during the hottest part of the day. There are numerous restaurants most are found around a little square just off the beach. We tried a few and would recommend Meltemi restaurant for fish souvlaki and one of the best Greek salads we tried in Methoni. Meltemi also has a good range of vegetarian dishes, and fresh fish caught in the morning, delicious! Another restaurant is Antonys Taverna try their fresh fish, squid, potato and cucumber salad and local rose wine. The house in Methoni is perfect for a beach holiday without the need for a car.

We have had a perfect holiday
We have had a perfect holiday in your lovely home. Methoni has everything you need and we never felt the need for a car. Swimming off the rocks at sunset with views of the castle was idyllic. Our favourite taverna was Kastro’s – delicious ‘pitta kebab’ and v.cheap ! We also recommend hiring a boat from the dive shop ( Nico’s) in Pylos – lots of pretty coves and beaches to explore. I’m afraid we can’t report on any of the historical sites and it was too hot to even contemplate any of them ! Your olives were without doubt the best we sampled ! Thank you for being so helpful from start to finish.

We had a wonderful time in your lovely house
We had a wonderful time in your lovely house. It gave us a really good shelter in a phase of greatest heat.... The region around Methoni is very impressive. We loved the waterfalls at Harangi and beautiful little places such as Koroni, Finikounda and Gialova at night with their lovely restaurants and of course beaches !

Great Location
We stayed in Aleiki for two weeks in early-mid October and had an excellent holiday. The villa is in a great location, with easy access on foot to lots of tavernas, bars and shops in Methoni and plenty to do in the surrounding area within comfortable driving distance. The owners went out of their way to make us welcome, were very helpful in getting us settled and provided some good information about the town and the area. The villa itself is well equipped and although it is joined to Phoebe there is a good sense of privacy as the entrances are on opposite sides of the building and the garden is well screened and not overlooked. Our two girls (4 and 2) loved Voidokilia beach, which has gently sloping soft sand and a horseshoe shape which makes it very sheltered and so ideal for young children. The owners had provided lots of toys at the villa including all the buckets, spades, etc that the girls could ever hope for. The weather at the start of October was perfect for us - great for swimming in the warm sea, but not so hot that it was uncomfortable to be out in the middle of the day. We really enjoyed exploring Methoni castle and also visiting ancient Messinia which is a bit of a drive but well worth it as the site is huge and very well preserved. We would certainly recommend this villa to anyone considering a trip to the Peloponnese.

How the past two weeks have flown by ! We felt so at home here, in this wonderful house, and in the beautiful friendly village of Methoni. We enjoyed exploring the region ( and all the glorious beaches ), the castle and, of course, the local food and wine. We certainly hope to return here one day very soon ! Tony Luisa and Lysander

A recommander.

Our taste of traditional Greece
We’re happy to re-live our last holiday for this review. We already had a couple of lovely summer holidays in the Methoni area and were overjoyed to find a house in the village this year which is what we were really after. Aleiki is well equipped and spacious, the garden is gorgeous and the children have a great time picking their own tomatoes. The village is great and we made some lovely friends amongst the locals. We enjoyed wonderful evening walks along the cliffs to the castle with a nice cool amstel at the bar at the end. Our 3 year old was obsessed by the castle but in fact none of us got bored of exploring it – it’s vast. Its especially exciting sneaking in after closing time ( the keeper tends to leave the gate unlocked when she goes). Evening is the best time to explore and watch amazing sunsets. We found some great beaches this year between Methoni and Finikounda – huge pristine and hardly any tourists. Destino beach bar at Lambast beach was a great find. It has a pool and kids pool with free sun beds and umbrellas – just buy a coffee or cold drink. We particularly loved sitting under the tress in the Aleiki garden after the kids had gone to bed enjoying the warm evenings with some local wine – 1.50 a litre and no hangover ! Thanks Nigel and Fiona.
