"The volcano house is a very charming hotel. It’s not fancy but it’s what you would expect from a national Park Lodge. The food was excellent in the dining room. Service was great. We had a little wait for dinner, about two hours, but that’s because the volcano had erupted that day, and there were lots of people there. But we finally were able to be squeezed in, and that was without a reservation. The rooms are not fancy, very basic, but very comfortable and have everything you need. There are lots of hiking trails outside on the property. We have the exciting experience of watching Kilauea erupt. There are a couple gift shops and. A visitors center across the street. We had a very nice time."

"Truly an amazing experience - beautiful remote property that’s walking distance to Black Sands Beach - plenty of sea turtles and just gorgeous views with next to no one around. Highly recommend grocery shopping before going and cooking most of your meals. However there are great food truck options nearby - AMA’s kitchen and Encanto were our favorites. Bedding was super comfortable and the Murphy bed was perfect for our 3 year old and the view from our balcony was of the beach and a nice way to start our morning. Staff was super friendly and they have chairs to rent, rice cooker, towels etc that made it super convenient. 10/10 would stay again!"

"I did not realise that we were staying in a plantation village, with multiple accommodation. I had made a request for two beds and, as it was a slow time of year, we got two bedrooms. Pahala is a very cute town (and currently the only one with a grocery store as the one in Naalehu was no longer as at 28 Jan 25). The people were also really friendly. The only thing to consider is the roosters. If you want to sleep in - close the windows. We didn't, as the black sand beach was all ours at sunrise, then came back to Pahala for coffee at the Ka'u Coffee Mill. "
