Really enjoyed staying here! The house was clean and comfortable, and the owner was easy to communicate with. We spent most of our time running around enjoying the great outdoors , but we were happy to come home to this house.
Life long friends joined us for a three day getaway. We just hung out and hiked and visited. Had a great time watching the local deer stop traffic!

We rented this house for the weekend of Snodeo in Old Forge. The house is conveniently located and is within walking distance to the restaurants and bars. We had a vendor booth at the Snodeo show so we didn't spend much time at the house but it worked out perfectly for what we needed. Communication with the host was excellent.
Well let’s start out by when we get there the back door is unlocked. Once we are inside there’s a terrible smell not sure if it’s the garbage can or could be propane smell from stove. We set garbage can outside the next morning come back later that day smell still there!!! So it’s suppose to sleep six there’s only 3 towels to use ( I brought my own thank goodness) and the towels smell terrible not one of the four used them. We ended up leaving Saturday for a 21/2 drive home didn’t feel comfortable in house to stay another night.house needs lots of work!!!
Couldn't be more convenient for a stay in Old Forge
Walking distance to so many things in Old Forge, and a mere 5 minute drive from McCauley made this great for a family visit for cross country skiing (although it was less than 5 degrees for half of the stay so we didn't actually walk anywhere in town). The Guide's Cottage is clean and cozy on sub-zero winter nights. While it is a house built in a different era, the remodels have made it a reasonable family space and it seems to "have good bones." We made several meals and the kitchen had everything we needed (just remember to pack a hand towel or two for the kitchen).
We enjoyed the house very much. It was clean and neat, many amenities were provided, fresh flowers was a nice touch. Everyone loved playing the air hockey. Owners were very communicative whenever I messaged with questions. Complaints we have are the mattresses weren't that comfortable, one of the beds sounded like it would fall apart, the second floor's floor creaked a lot and not level. But we would recommend this house for anyone who wants to visit Shelburne Falls or do some skiing near by.
This property is a great place to stay, and the property manager/owner is very easy to communicate with. Will definitely be returning to this property.
Jason was a great communicator who answered our questions and addressed concerns quickly. The home on the Main Street was a perfect location for our visit. Food, shopping and trails were nearby and the porch was a comfy spot to watch people and animals pass by. Parking was available for 2 cars in the driveway, and if you had more than that street parking was also easy to find out front. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had most of the necessities (bring your own condiments, coffee, etc.). Overall, we would definitely stay here again!
It's a decent house that is right in the middle of town and has what you need to have a nice stay. It's not the nicest house, but the owners have clearly put some effort in to spruce it up a bit and it has what it needs to do the trick. Nothing super special, but clearly taken care of to make it work. The location is great if you want to be right in Old Forge. There were a few little things missing in the kitchen (no dishwasher and couldn't find dishtowels or napkins), but these are manageable. The bedrooms are clean and there is a nice shower. If you are looking for beautiful design and totally decked out, this is not the place...but if you just want a place to keep your food, lay your head and have a home base while you go out and enjoy Old Forge, this place will do great. We just used it as a homebase for a day that we went into Old Forge and it did the trick. We were really happy to have it. Jason is a great communicator and made it easy to have a successful stay.
