"Thank you Nikko Hoshinoyado- we had a wonderful Japanese experience in Nikko and at the hotel. We are sorry we don’t speak Japanese, and that made little things challenging a bit. We wish we knew that for a best experience we should have booked dinner at the hotel because we did not find a single suitable place to eat within walking distance of the hotel (October 18, 2024). So we did not have dinner that night. Breakfast, on the other hand was fantastic. We also loved the Onsen experience....

"Extremely remote (nearly a 3 hour bus ride from Kinegawa Onsen Train station into the winding mountains) which was both an adventure and unnerving. Made to feel like a foreigner with little help in understanding the cultural norms as a newcomer to the onsen experience. The in-suite onsen option was incredible, providing both privacy and ability to enjoy the experience as a newcomer free of the "ritual" imposed but not well explained for use of the public hot pools. "Nice traditional old Japanese style stay. Though Breakfast is also traditionally Japanese style with rice! Yes morning Breakfast with rice, we still prefer bread or something light. Room extremely spacious compare to Tokyo city. Might need some renovations to upgrade tho. "

"Everything about the accommodation was excellent, especially the staff! Despite the communication struggles, they were very helpful and provided great service during my stay. The free shuttle service to the ski resort was also extremely useful as they would drive you to your desired resort and pick you up at your specified time. "I really enjoyed my stay at Kashiwaya Ryokan. Although it was long to get to without a car, it was worth the travel. The 2 days there didn’t feel like it was enough time. I will return again for sure. The room was comfortable, the private onsen were beautiful and amazing. The kaiseki served at dinner were delicious and perfectly balanced.
