"Hale Makai is a gorgeous home(cottage) on the west side of Kauai. The tranquil space was the perfect home away from home as we adventured around the island. The hosts did an amazing job communicating with us both before and during our stay, promptly answering and mitigating any issues we may have had. The home is beautiful, the hot tub the patio, the lanai, the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were absolutely perfect. The location of the cottage is perfect for a more quiet home space. It's across the street from a beautiful black sand beach, a short drive to many white sand beaches with many other adventures within a maximum 1.5 hour drive. If you like to cook, and even if you don't, you will find everything you need at Hale Makai. The kitchen is so well equipped it was a pleasure to stay home and cook our meals. Locally sourced beef, fish and coffee were our favourites. The sunsets on the west side just down the road we were told are the best on the island. Take a walk or quick drive to Kekaha Beach Park for the sunsets and views of the Ni'Ihua (the forbidden island). We hope to return to the island and to Hale Makai someday. Mahalo "

"This house was perfect for our stay. We have a member of our family with celiac disease, so we prepared most of our meals at home. The kitchen was perfectly suited for our meals and the grill was outstanding. The rooms were spacious and the furniture so comfortable. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe in our surroundings. We could even walk to the beach if desired. Overall, we loved every minute of our stay!"

"Our stay at this VRBO in Kauai was absolutely perfect! The location was stunning—so close to the ocean that we could hear the waves and enjoy breathtaking sunsets every evening. The home itself was spacious and well-equipped, comfortably accommodating our large group with plenty of room to relax.The host was fantastic—she responded quickly to all our messages and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, even providing folding chairs and a tent for the park. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, making our stay stress-free and enjoyable.We would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kauai, and if we ever return, we wouldn’t hesitate to book it again!"

"The property was clean, well equipped with a variety of kitchen small appliances, plenty of service ware large groups, numerous condiments & so much more! There were plenty of towels, including beach towels & also beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. Two of the bedrooms & 1bath are across a partially covered breeze way & not directly attached to the main house. This was fine for our group but would consider a different property if traveling with kids. Our host could not have been more helpful/responsive. His response to every question or concern was prompt & friendly."

"The elegance and beauty of old Hawaii, with modern convenience added. The house is an amazing piece of history. We researched the family, and imagined what it would have been like to gather on the wide porch, or around the dining table 100 years ago. Plenty of space to spead out or spend time together. The views are amazing."
