One Star Surprise
In reality this is a youth hostel. The washrooms were a disaster and the windows that do open also let in the cold weather which at 32 degree and lower is not a good thing. TV's don't work except the one in the lobby, Insufficient bedding (ask for extra towels and blankets and they will be provided) and rather uncomfortable sagging beds with thin and sagging mattresses. No maid service during stay. No frills to the max!

Okay, I guess
For what I paid, I didn't expect a five-star experience. Room was clean, and the bathroom was cleaner than my own at home. The TV didn't work, the internet wasn't free, but they weren't too big sacrifices. However, there was very little to no heat in my room, and I had to sleep with the jacket on.

cool place
cool place. the location is great! Very close to subway and 3 bus lines. hotel was nice, bathroom very clean and everything was perfect except from the smell. it smelled like urine. but for what you pay it's a totally nice place to stay. I recommend this hotel, would stay there again.

Has the feel of a government housing complex
Probably one of the worst hotel stays ever. The room was small, with 2 bunk beds, both of which were broken. The hotel and the room had a strange odor, and the room had a cooler however there was no place to plug it in. The sheets were dirty and had blood stains on them, and the shared bathroom was just plain gross. The front desk service was hostile and made me uncomfortable. Booked for 3 night, however only stayed for two. Could not wait to get out of this place.

I stayed in bunk-bed room: OK if you believe like me that "you get what you pay for"
I stayed in the bunk bed room: in a nutshell "you get what you pay for", not the cleanest or the slickest, not even the "traveller hostel" feel as it's kinda a hotel, but if you're only interested in a place to sleep for few days: it's OK (again I stayed in a shared bunk bed room for the typical low end price of a hostel, so my expectations weren't high)

Cheap clean place
This place is really simple but relatively clean and well connected to the subway system and the bus to La Guardia Airport. It is good value for money. There is internet in the basement comparatively cheap for NY. A pity that there is no closet in the room so one has to live out of the suitcase.

Cheap Place to Stay in an Expensive City
It's close to the subway and in a nice neighbourhood. It didn't have any cockroaches or bedbugs. It could have been cleaner; I would not touch that floor with bare feet, bring flip flops! There always seemed to be hot water. You might want to bring a spare towel for longer stays as you only get one. The bathrooms were not cleaned often enough and something you had to go to a different floor to find one with toilet paper. The elevator is ancient and finicky; pack light and be prepared to drag your luggage up the stairs. Do not believe the pictures on the website, the rooms don't really look like that. The wireless internet only really works in the lobby - you'll always see people camped out there. Bring your laptop, the wired internet is ridiculous. The cable doesn't work. The staff was friendly but they don't go out of their way to help you. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs because the walls are paper thin. You don't want to be awakened by a neighbour singing raunchy drinking songs at 3am.

Very basic
A place to sleep at a reasonable price. Very small room with double bed and bathroom down the hall. Towel but no soap. TV didn't work, which was the only disappointment. Otherwise, very basic hotel/hostle, but exactly what I expected and wanted - nothing more or less. A bit far from the subway (about 3 short blocks). I'd stay there again.

Basic but good value
The hotel was basically fine and cheaper than the YMCA, with which it might be compared. The room was spartan but adequate, the bed comfortable, although the pillows were a bit lumpy. Facilities; internet, payphone etc also basic but OK. The shower was good and the water hot, but the toilet did block briefly, but this was resolved. A very nice and convenient location, between Broadway and Central Park and well served by the A and 1 subway lines.

The Name "Hostel" Says It All...
I've read some pretty funny reviews regarding this hotel... but one thing you have to consider is if you're paying that kind of money, you shouldn't expect much at all... I'm a college kid, and hostels are perfect for us... cheap and a place to sleep... I couldn't shower bc the bathroom was all dirty, but I did get my own room... which was pretty cool... So guys, just remember this... don't expect much if you're paying this little, and you'll be all set...

The price & location was great but the hotel stay was very depressing. No bright lighting, no aircondition, no positive atmosphere.

No Frills - Great for Super Travellers
If you are the type of traveller who uses your accomodations as your place to sleep and shower then this is your place! You get a bed, a secure room and a shower (although it is shared). It may not be fancy with flowers in the hallway, and you should probably wear flip flops in the shower, but our stay was without complaint. I left my laptop and my ipod in the room and they were still there every single time. I did not see any bugs or vermin in the hotel or the room, and the bed was actually comfortable. The people were nice and the location is unbeatable for the price.

Very displeased with this hotel
This was my absolute worst hotel experience of my life. I paid a pretty penny to stay in this hotel that looked like a home which was turned into a hotel. One of the desk staff was absolutely rude and shows no sympathy for the guests what so ever. The walk-in area displayed an old 1970’s look, the tile floors were cracked, the crevices of the ceiling had molding and were dirty, the so called leather chairs were ripped and worn down from over the years and the elevator was completely crappy and was out of service, actually, we got stuck in it, because there was no out of service sign. After we got out of the elevator the only staff told us to not use it because it did not work and he then placed an out of service sign on the door. The area of this hotel was horrific. As for the room, we were told we would get a [two bed] room and we got one small room no bigger than 10x10, with one twin size bed. The carpet was dirty and old, the sheets and towels were disgusting, the paint on the walls were chipped to its worst state, water pipes were running through the ceiling up from the floor and the “working” TV with “cable” wouldn’t even turn on. There was no air conditioning but only one small blowing fan. Keep in mind that the rooms do not come with a bathroom, but instead it (meaning one per floor) was located directly down the hall for everyone to use. It had urine encircled around the toilet, and the bath tub was completely unacceptable. Unbelievably, I had to carry my two children down the street to some random restaurant so that they could use the bathroom. My family and I were very unsatisfied; we left the next day, w/o our refund. Would not recommend to anyone!

Can't beat it.
An incredibly inexpensive, reasonably clean and comfortable place to stay. It's not the Ritz by any stretch of the imagination, but you're in New York, so you only need the room to sleep and shower anyways. Will be staying there again.

GREAT PRICE, GREAT DEAL
I stayed in the hostel. There were only two bathrooms for the whole floor, and yet there was never a line to use them. The walls were not very nice looking and the bathrooms were old. there was a small kitchen with a stove fridge and sink for the floor. the staff was not friendly, but not mean. For the price paid, it was an amazing deal. if you are just looking for a bed to sleep in, this is the place for you.

Great for sleeping.
For someone who only needs a place to sleep, this is perfect. It's may be old but it's clean, very cheap, quiet and the shower works. I slept my 8 hours nicely. It's also very well location : 3 minutes walking from Central Park or from the Metro. I'm keeping this address.

Last Alternative
This is a not an enjoyable environment for the children. I would treat this as my last alternative but even with that I would consider another option. Staff was great but the fact of a bathroom/ shower being outside of our room just didn't sit with me well.

Good place for the money
No chair or closet in the room with a twin bunkbed, TV not operating, long line for access to Internet via the only two computers in use, and bathrooms were very clean though one toilet clogged once while staying at the inn for two nights. There was no central air conditioning but a portable electric fan kept the room cool enough to sleep comfortably. The elevator was out of order, but walking up and down three floors was a fitted workout.
