"Everything about this cottage is wonderful. You are just a short bus ride to Amsterdam (nothing compares with the ease of the Dutch transit system), yet you are right on a canal with a gorgeous view of farmland and a long, long view to the horizon. The town itself, Broek in Waterland, is one of the sweetest in all of Holland and has two excellent restaurants. "This wonderful little cottage in the woods is the perfect place to relax, explore the dune reserve and get away from it all. You are woken by birds and apart from the wind in the trees, that's the only sound. The house is well equipped and in the perfect location for stroll to the nearby town of Schoorl, or as a base for exploring the surrounding area of dunes and forests and of course, the amazing golden beaches. "We are a family of 4 from Canada, and this was such a lovely place to stay and explore the area including Amsterdam. It was very easy to hop in the train. The guesthouse was clean and very cutely decorated. Marcel was very accommodating and kind. We didn't have much time to visit him because we were so busy, but he checked in with us frequently. I would highly recommend a stay here."

"Wir haben zwei sehr schöne Wochen im "de Kleine bonte Specht" verlebt. Das Haus ist sehr gemütlich, der kleine Wildgarten ein Traum. Die ruhige Lage ist super, die Vermieterin sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Wir kommen bestimmt nochmal wieder."

"The hotel and facilities was excellent. The staff super friendly and helpful. Breakfast and our evening meal was delicious. The room and the views exceeded our expectations. Using the hotel bikes to get around was great fun and quicker than walking. The area around the hotel was quiet and felt safe. The bus was a short journey from Centraal Station and there was a good frequency of services. Overall, a fantastic stay at the July."
