This multifaceted destination merges the natural charm of an apple orchard with the luxurious amenities of a cat resort. Definitely a memorable holiday experience unlike any other!
The Space:
Grassmere Orchard by Tiny Away is located on the northern side of the apple orchard, offering convenient access to the veggie garden. This pet-friendly accommodation is nestled near a sunlit orchard surrounded by lush gardens, providing a comfortable and welcoming retreat for you and your pets.
The tiny home has its own secluded spot away from the luxury cat resort and has easy access to local towns (Taradale and Napier) which are about a 5-10 min drive. Not to mention popular attractions such as Bluff Hill Lookout, The National Aquarium of New Zealand, Te Mata Peak, and Mission Estate.
Nothing but a cozy 139-square-foot tiny home with easy access to water, split air-conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and gas-heated showers.
If you plan to spend your holiday homes NZ here, we advise guests to supply their basic necessities, such as food and drinking water during your stay with us.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We run an apple orchard from our property, there may be workers onsite- spraying, trimming, and harvesting the apples.
In addition, we run a luxury cat resort from our property which has clients picking up and dropping off their cats between the hours of 8:30am-10am and 4:30pm-6pm, which means we have additional vehicles driving in and out of the property. If your a cat lover, feel free to drop by and take a glimpse of them!
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home, and are restricted from entering any cat resort buildings or sheds unless accompanied by a staff member. As an added note, we ask guests to be mindful of traffic coming and going to during our cat resort opening hours is from 8:30 am-10 am and 4:30 pm-6 pm.
Please note that the orchard is not fully fenced, and there are free-ranging chickens, pukeko’s and rabbits in the orchard.

Grassmere Orchard by Tiny Away is located south of coastal Napier City, known for its trademark Art Deco architecture, characterised by geometric designs, pastel colours, and quirky signs.

Sightseeing
- Te Mata Peak is 400 meters above sea level, a must-go for avid hikers as it has spectacular panoramas in every direction.
- Bluff Hill Lookout is one of the best vantage points in Napier, rewarding intrepid hikers with magnificent views of the busy port and aquamarine waters of Hawke’s Bay.
- The National Aquarium of New Zealand houses little penguins, stingrays, kingfish and many more beautiful native marine creatures of New Zealand, swimming over you in a 1.5 million litre oceanarium tunnel.
Wineries
- Mission Estate is an iconic Hawke’s Bay landmark offering lovingly restored classic surroundings, magnificent views, world class cuisine and wines.
- Church Road Winery is one of Hawke’s Bay’s most awarded wineries, providing a complete winery experience with cellar door wine tasting and an a la carte restaurant which provides food pairing.
Festival
- Art Deco Napier is an annual Art Deco Festival held usually in February and is one of New Zealand’s largest and most iconic event, taking over the streets, cafe, bars, galleries and venues of Napier with hundreds of events to choose from.
Getting Around:
We are located in a semi rural location, so a car is beneficial as public transport options are limited.
By car:
- Airport is approx 14 minutes by car -12 km
- Taradale is approx 6 minutes by car - 4.1 km
- Napier is approx 6 minutes by car - 5.3 km
- Hastings is approx 20 minutes by car - 12 km
- Havelock North is approx 25 minutes by car -19 km
Reachable by 2WD and 4WD.
By public transport:
- Taxis would be available throughout the Hawke’s Bay region.
- Flights from all regional airports take about an hour.
Other Things to Note:
- Wifi is not available
- Pets are allowed by prior notice
- No smoking allowed on the property
- Recycling and composting is available onsite
- We have free-roaming pets around the property
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- There is a BBQ grill, and a pizza oven/fire pit available for use
- There is an outside slow-charger for an electric vehicle available
- Mobile reception is good for Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, 2degrees and Spark
- Pets are not allowed on beds and sofas, and clean after your pet’s droppings
- Please clean up after your pet’s shedding before checking out in courtesy of other guests
- Please note that this is a PET-FRIENDLY property, and pet policies will be sent prior to arrival
- Please advise that you may encounter occasional noise as we are a working orchard and luxury cat resort
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
House guidelines
- Don’t forget to close the windows and lock doors when leaving the tiny house/ property
- Make sure to turn off the lights, air conditioning, and electronics (e.g., especially chargers)
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
