"An incredibly well designed hotel! It's modern and yet full of history of Otsu. Certainly a hidden gem. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Not to be missed is their guided tour by the hotel staff. "This place was cool, and had an emphasis on Americanism, with President roooms including a JFK room. It was really nice to experience! We noticed lot of school kids stayed in the hotel, probably for the American historical context, or that it was just right by one of the main train stops. Either way, the people in this area are all so nice and friendly, way more thab the big city of Tokyo. Genuinely enjoyed our stay around this place, and there's a ton of food options nearby, including a giant...

"There was only one parking space left when I arrived at night time. Driving to the hotel was difficult as it's in a city with narrow roads and lots of people walking around and riding bikes. The staff were polite and spoke English. My room was clean and comfortable with air conditioning. Train station is within walking distance and it takes about 26 min to get to Kyoto station."

"We had a great experience staying at Yumotokan. The dinner was exceptional (very filling!) and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. The variety of onsen baths was great, each one unique and beautiful. The futon beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. Loved our stay and would highly recommend to other travellers hoping for a ryokan experience that isn’t breaking the bank! "

"No room keys. Not good for more than sleeping. Tried to stay 2 nights during busy Kyoto travel season. It was a mess to talk through with the staff. Window was broken and the rooms were stuffy. Cleanliness was only okay the bed was big but there was stain on sheets, if we wanted room cleaning in between days we needed to check out of the hotel, the shower had a lot of mold. Nice amenities. Far from station."

"À hidden gem of a hotel in Kyoto. I always stay here when I return to Kyoto. A beautiful, well-appointed entrance, and as you pass through the door… fragrances and music that inspired Zen, a modern, uncluttered decor with a beautiful marriage of wood in contemporary architecture, a small bakery in the entrance area where the you can buy a variety of breads baked on site and a courteous welcome as we are used to in Japan. It is obvious that the design team had all their talent and heart at work. The attention to detail to create a near-perfect atmosphere for all the senses…yes, all the senses…was very evident. From the fragrances of the soaps, to the faucets in the shower, the creative work was evident there. The well-equipped restaurant for dinner and my best breakfast in a hotel to date, the bread bar filled with products cooked on site. In addition, a roof terrace on the 6th floor with bar, sofas, heaters and warm blankets in the evening when the temperature was approaching zero. "
