"Wonderful hotel close to the entrance to the alpine route. Rooms are beautifully appointed. Beds are very comfortable and have soft and hard pillows available on the bed. Onsen is clean and offers both indoor and outdoor option. Customer service is excellent. Front desk is efficient , courteous and helpful. Food at restaurant is excellent. Buffet has many Japanese and western options. They are very good at addressing allergies and food presences. Highly recommend to add to your booking the evening and the breakfast buffet ( it’s is not only delicious but also much cheaper than adding at hotel). Highly recommended! "

"Took a chance on having no idea what to do or where to stay. Found this place and it didn’t disappoint! First off, Nicolas is the best host we have ever experienced. Seriously cannot thank him enough for taking care of my family. Answered every question and made some amazing recommendations. He grew up here and knows this place well. Thank you Nicolas. Second, location is the best! We walked right to the lift! It is literally across the street and there’s a great rental shop below the inn that gives you a discount. Nico also does a great job of letting you know the good deals and getting everything for you set up. He even delivered our lift tickets to the rental shop. Great dude! Third, everything you need is right here. The room is so comfortable with amazing views and secure. Best trip to the snow in Japan. Highly recommend this place. Five stars doesn’t do it justice. "Stayed here for 4 nights and it was the perfect spot for skiing. Just opposite the beginner slope chair lift and only a short walk from the ski school. The staff were excellent and very welcoming, especially the man at reception. We really appreciated the buffet dinner after long days of skiing. Would definitely recommend booking a stay here. Rooms are very cosy and beds are comfy."

"Worst hotel experience I’ve ever dealt with. Unable to get to the hotel because the only road to the hotel was closed. Hotel customer service was out-sourced and I had to talk to someone out of Japan that did not know anything about the hotel or roads in the area. After about 2 hours of back-and-forth via emails, they finally provided a number to the actual hotel, but the language barrier was a challenge. They agreed to cancel the reservation and agreed to provide a full refund, however, spending over 2 hours with 2 young kids trying to get to the hotel was definitely not how we wanted to end our snow day. We had to look for a last minute hotel booking to ensure we had a place to stay for the night. Be careful of this hotel. Pictures can be deceiving. Customer service is out-sourced to a different county."

"hard to imagine a greater contrast between a property and its location. it's situated in an amazingly privileged placement. as far as I can tell it's the only ski-in ski-out accommodation in the area. just strap on your board or skis and you're 30 seconds' glide down to the lift. the only issue about the location is that there are relatively few places in walking distance, and the shuttles stop running early - so be prepared for longish walks or a taxi back from dinner at night. the prime location makes it all the more strange that the property itself is so medicore, like a 2 star hostel. rooms are small and not well kept, with stained carpeting and curtains dangling unevenly from windows. beds are extremely firm, and some bedrooms have no windows. shuto the caretaker is great, but it's crazy that there's only one staff member to manage the whole place, working seven days a week - so it's not surprising that the upkeep isn't great. all in all, this is a pretty decent crashpad for winter sports people given the proximity to the slopes - but if you're looking for comfort, amenities, or anything other than basic accomodations, look elsewhere."

"Property was beautifully situationed and lovely atmosphere. The staff and managers were outstanding, they couldn't help enough to make our time perfect. The main disappointing aspect was the rooms, they were really run down and out of date, they were tired, not very clean and for the money not good value. We were very unahappy with the rooms. "

"I really enjoyed my time at Dark Horse. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming, and helped out in many ways, both big and small. Breakfasts and dinners were good and the lounge/dining room was a comfortable place to relax after riding. It was great value for the money. I would recommend it, and would stay there again without hesitation."

"Excellent location for skiing. Property is very nice and exactly what I wanted. Modern bed rooms, bathrooms, lounge room with plenty of space. We could ski back to the house and it's a two minute walk to the slopes. Night skiing is right there. It's on a large property on the side of the mountain with a creek. The kitchen is a bit old and funky but we cooked meals each day without any problem and it is well stocked with dishes and pans. You need a hire car as it is off the beaten track. Also there were ladybugs inside - if you have insect phobia maybe not for you. Great place recommended if you want a self contained family holiday away from the crowds of Hakuba and echoland."
