Casa Cielo: Bird’s Eye Views– proceeds support Sustainability Center

All proceeds from Casa Cielo fund the animal welfare, environmental and social welfare programs at the Sustainability Center. Casa Cielo is a breathtaking paradise with unmatched views of the forested mountains of Monteverde and is perfect for families or groups of friends. Enjoy exploring the private forest trails throughout our 2.5 hectare/6 acre property, and relax on the balcony to enjoy incredible sunsets over forest valley and the Gulf of Nicoya. Just minutes from Santa Elena and the Monteverde reserves, this cabin is the perfect home base for all of your ecotourism adventures in the cloud forest!

Casa Cielo is truly the most awe-inspiring home in Monteverde. This two-story (plus loft) A-frame cabin makes guests feel as if they are living in the sky. Hawks can often be seen soaring over the valley from the large picture windows running the length of the first floor. The sunrises and sunsets from the hammock on the upstairs balcony are an unforgettable experience. We provide you with free organic coffee from our farm in Monteverde for the first morning of your stay for you to settle in and enjoy the spectacular beauty of the surrounding forest.

Casa Cielo features a whirlpool bathtub on the second floor for two overlooking the valley forest views. With gorgeous hardwood floors throughout the cabin and plenty of spaces to relax, Casa Cielo is the ideal spot for a vacation in paradise. With a double bed and loft bed upstairs, plus a cozy futon, Casa Cielo easily sleeps 5 people. Both the downstairs bathroom and upstairs whirlpool bathtub have hot water, and there is a washing machine and double clothesline. You’ll enjoy the view while cooking in our fully-equipped kitchen, and the whole family will love sitting down for a meal at our custom-crafted dining table. Of if you’d rather relax, you can enjoy traditional Costa Rican meals cooked by our neighbors from the local community and delivered to you.

You’ll love relaxing on the couch or in the armchair in the living room, curling up with a book on the upstairs loveseat, or enjoying a sunset coffee or glass of wine in the balcony hammock. The views in Casa Cielo are unmatched no matter where you are in the cabin. The dining table looks out onto our forest preserve property, and further beyond into the valley and out to the Gulf of Nicoya. All of our guests love the upstairs balcony, which has a custom designed wrought iron railing– feel free to set up the hammock for some serious relaxing or take it down to do sunrise yoga.

Enjoy playing a game or reading from our library collection of children and adult books, Costa Rican guidebooks, and books about local flora and fauna. Sit down at the desk to write a story in our guestbook or look up activities in Monteverde with free Wifi. With over 2.5 hectares/6 acres of private forest to explore via our trails, you will have a great time exploring the famous cloud forests of Monteverde and seeing various plants and animals (including parrots, toucans, and monkeys).

You can enjoy the entire house, private parking space, and the private 2.5 hectare/6 acre lush forest property that surrounds Casa Cielo. There is a private gated entrance and short flat trail leading to Casa Cielo.

We provide guests with the option of ordering homemade meals that are delivered straight to your doorstep! Please arrange with us ahead of time if you would like meals (breakfasts, lunches, and/or dinners) prepared throughout your stay.

My family recently stayed there for 2 nights. I have to say the view is unbelievable gorgeous!! The house does feel like standing in the sky from the mountain. All you can see out of the window is the surrounding mountains, the clouds moving and shadows fall into the mountain. Birds in the sky. Sunset is gorgeous! All my family, including two kids at age 5 and 7, totally enjoyed it. Neighbor's dog is a cute plus!

Beautiful Spot!
One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The house is rustic and a little rough around the edges but that is all accounted for in the price and clear in the listing. The village of Santa Elena is close by and great for dining and shopping. Just string the hammock up on the porch and relax.

Lovely tree house in idyllic location
The chalet was brilliant. A great space for the whole family, with amazing views. The hosts communicated brilliantly and we had a great time. The view is honestly just amazing and waking up to it on the mornings we're beautiful. Great facilities too with a kitchen stocked with equipment and some coffee and bits provided. Thanks for a great stay!

Wonderful!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property - the views were gorgeous, the house had all the amenities we needed and helpful notes to explain the property. A true gem in Monteverde. This property has the view !! Don't expect a completely bug-free room. All basic necessities are taken care of. It is not a resort but if you are looking for a simple, peaceful stay with great views, this is it.

Monteverde is magical
I wish we had more time to spend there, but what a nice oasis to come home to after trekking the hills all day! The view rivals all the expensive hotels in the area. I was glad to know that staying there might help in some small way support the efforts to preserve habitat in the area. Definitely use the GPS coordinates to find it. Even though it is close to the road, we never would have found it without them.

Casa Cielo is a unique experience that typifies Costa Rica's laidback lifestyle and joy of the environment. We stayed 2 weeks and were awakened every morning by a pair of the local blue jays banging on the windows. We were visited by a troupe of Capuchin monkeys, a bold, red, tufted ear squirrel and a variety of birds. A gecko and baby iguana were in the bedroom- never caused problems, it was cool. Any organic food remains (apple cores, banana peels, watermelon rinds) were thrown out the window (as far as you can) for the wildlife. The view from balcony is magnificent, looking out over the forest and hills. One thing that took some getting used to was their septic system (same throughout the country, wherever we went) you DO NOT put ANYTHING- including toilet paper in the toilet. There is a small wastebasket provided for all TP, etc. If you want to get away from hotels and live more in line with the locals (yet still feel a bit special) THIS is the place to do it! Not only would I recommend it to others, I would cheerfully stay there again!

Beautiful view, secluded and supporting sustainable tourism!
We stayed for 3 nights and wish we had stayed the entire 9 nights we had in CR. Veronica was extremely accommodating with the warmest welcome after our long drive. We chose this place after reading it benefited the Sustainable Demonstration Center, as well as offering local homemade food from the neighbor Giselle and her family, which was amazing!! We could have stayed at the house all day with the beautiful views watching birds and monkeys but we did explore the wonderful town of Santa Elena and Selvatura Reserve. We have recommended this wonderful place to many friends and hope we can return again someday. It fills me with excitement to revisit this listing with the wonderful experience and memories it provided us. Thank you Veronica and family :)

To reconnect with nature
We had 3 amazing days at the Casa Cielo. We stopped first by the sustainability Center for great food and to learn about Veronica's projects before discovering this little paradise. The house is very well equipped and ideal to accommodate our family of 3 teenagers. We loved throwing food out the window, looking at birds and vegetation. We were glad that we weren't in Santa Elena where it seems to drizzle all the time, where in Casa Cielo was sunny and breezy. The mangoes were delicious and the kids learned that the mandarines are very sour. Thanks again for your generosity.

Amazing Memories!
Our family of four stayed at Casa Cielo in March. It is rare in life that you meet an individual as wonderful as our host Veronica. Her availability and conscientiousness were unsurpassed. We were thrilled to see the work being done at the sustainability center and learn about native plants and animals in our short visits with Stuart and Veronica before we headed to the cabin and upon our departure. Seeing the animals and swimming in the river at Veronica's other property were highlights of our trip. The cabin was just what our family needed-an opportunity to take in the beauty of the area and connect with one another with simple pleasures. We highly recommend Casa Cielo and hope to return some day. Buy the coffee and other goodies that are offered during your stay-they are delicious!

Beautiful view, excellent location for Monte Verde
We loved our three night stay at La Lindora. The view from this cabin is amazing morning, noon and night. The kitchen is adequately stocked and there are good restaurants nearby. Monte Verde is a short drive away. We loved just being at the place and looking out over the expanse of the valley, and watching birds come and go from the porch. We had dinner prepared and delivered from Giselle, as soon as we arrived ( ordered ahead of time) which was so heartwarming and delicious to start our trip. Highly recommend this and any outings provided by Stuart !! Thank you Stuart for being our friend and guide. Absolutely not to miss is a tortilla making and coffee tour with Stuart! Our guide in Monte Verde was so knowledgeable and we enjoyed the tour very much. Do pay attention to what is falling around you when looking high in the trees at howler monkeys! We would absolutely come here again when we have the chance. I recommend a head light or something for navigating from the parking spot down to the house. We loved our stay.

Amazing!
We (couple, mid-late 20's) stayed at Casa Cielo for 2 nights and wish we had stayed longer! We stopped at the Sustainability Demonstration Centre on the way up - a must see! Veronica was such a warm and welcoming host, and was extremely helpful with booking tours and making recommendations for things to do during our stay. Our tour of the Sustainability Centre with Stuart was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Costa Rica! We had dinner made for us by Giselle one evening - delicious. Will be recommending this place to all of our friends and family - the views are unbelievable and it was so nice to "get away" in this private home (while still being very close to Saint-Elena!). For those renting a car - recommend an SUV, particularly if driving to Selvatura Park or other local attractions in the Monteverde area. The "Rally Yaris" made it around okay, but something with a little bit more clearance would have made driving less stressful! Definitely want to come back - 2 days was not enough time to explore the area - and I would have loved to check out the farmers market on a Saturday!

Perfect for the Adventurer
Casa Cielo was the perfect location for our family of four looking for our adventure in Costa Rica. Close to Santa Elena for grocery, a restaurant meal or some souvenirs. The location gave us close access to Selvatura Adventure Park for an amazing Zip Line experience, a tour of the Cloud Forest guided by Veronica's brother in law Greivin, horseback riding to the hot springs, the Don Juan Coffee Tour and of course the Sustainability Demonstration Centre. Veronica, Carol, Alex and Stuart were gracious and very welcoming hosts and travel agents giving us detailed advice and recommendations to everything we wanted to do. Be sure to spend some time at the centre to learn all the amazing things this family is doing for the community and the environment. The Saturday market across from the centre is also a great community event to experience traditional food, music and culture. The cabin offered spectacular views and opportunities daily to view wildlife up close. Be sure to take up the offer of Giselle's home cooking. The taste of Costa Rica direct to your dining table. Thank you to Jose also for bringing us to the river for a fantastic private swim in the river.

We had 5 wonderful nights at Casa Cielo. Veronica was extremely warm and welcoming when we stopped by her Sustainability Center on the way up the mountain. It was Saturday so we were able to shop at the local's market there and picked up some wonderful food for our stay. We were met by Giselle who showed us in and told us the basics of using the washer etc. The house is set on the side of the mountain and the large downstairs windows( which can open wide) look out on the most amazing vista all the way to the Gulf. The upstairs deck for sunsets was a highlight of every day. We were able to visit the Reserves around Santa Elena and then leave the crowds for our little quiet spot on the mountain. Hiking the trails below we'd see toucans and parrots flying by. We had a wonderful dinner brought to us by Giselle one night and hired Grevein, Veronica's brother-in -law, as our own personal guide one morning in the cloud forest. He was exceptional -- the best guide you could possibly be with. His incredible eyes and ears allowed us to see so much of that amazing place that we would have missed otherwise. We have great memories of the Monteverde area because of our stay at Casa Cielo.

Cabin in the sky
We picked up the keys from Veronica at the Sustainability Demonstration Center, where she is doing so much good work for the environment and the local community. In fact the rental cost of the cabin goes directly to supporting the center. If you have time to let her show you around the center and explain the work she is doing, you wont be disappointed. The view from the cabin on the side of the hill are so expansive and the number of birds to see is incredible. Giselle's cooking is excellent and a great opportunity to take an evening away from domestic chores, support the local community and enjoy fresh ingredients and a home cooked meal delivered right to your kitchen table. 700 meters up the road is Finca Lindora where you must take the opportunity for only $35 to horseback ride through the hills to a private paradise of two natural rock pools built to capture hot spring water coming out of the hill and adjacent to a gushing stream of cold water. There's even a stone changing room. It was amazing, and totally private - just my husband and I and our 9-year old daughter. Horses are rock steady so no concerns for non-riders. We would definitely recommend for those wanting to get away from it all but yet be only a 10 minute drive to town (Santa Elena/Monteverde).
