"Our family stayed over for a night at the hotel to visit Daisetsuzan. Hotel is very close to the cable car in small town of Sounkyo. We were there at off-season so it was quiet. Hotel is bit old but its a nice experience to stay in traditional Japanese accommodation. Rooms and tatami mattress were fine and fits in 4 people (albeit bit tight). "We just spent five weeks in Japan and are still talking about the food we ate here. It is nothing short of spectacular. We paid quadruple at other ryokans and this one had the best food, best location and the best onsens. It’s an older place with older, big onsens and for us that was the charm of it. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind. We went skiing one day and snowshoeing the next and ended up seeing a red fox each day. Really can’t recommend this...

"Sounkyo is a quaint little resort town with not much in the way of facilities, but this hotel helps make up for that. They provided dinner and breakfast so I didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant in the freezing cold. They also have a hot spring, a place to chill and play billiards, and even a movie showing every night in which I regrettably could not partake. I also stayed during Sounkyo's Ice Waterfall Festival, which was marvelous and a bit different from the other winter festivals...
