Those 2 words sum up our stay. We couldnt have asked for a better Autumn get away to recharge, slightly :) unplug, enjoy the beautiful views and listen to the sweet sounds of cows mooing! Great host and great space! Cant wait to book it again!
We enjoyed our stay immensely. The yurt was well set up for every need we might have had. The bed was one of the most comfortable we ever slept in. We had a couple of small hiccups because of the cold weather but our host addressed them immediately and resolved them.
Enjoyed our stay! Overall a fantastic property. Really fun and unique place and as advertised, however firepit area could use a trim. Bed was comfortable, and pullout was comfy as well. Able to work remotely and had no trouble, We enjoyed grilling on the deck and the solostove for smores in evenings!
We loved staying here. It was a fun and different property in a beautiful location. My only complaint is that some dishes were not clean. Other than that, everything was amazing, and I would recommend this place to anyone considering it.
Solar solitude is more than just a yurt, it has beautiful floors, a well appointed kitchen, beautiful bathroom, and a skylight for stargazing. Set in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood you can get back to nature in style. Russell is an attentive host and responds to any inquiry quickly.
The yurt is incredible. The structure itself is very cool, but it's set amongst several pastures to walk through with your dog in the morning listening to birdsong and cows and during the magic hour in the evening. It has everything you could need; this is luxury glamping! Russ is so nice and responsive and helpful. Lost River State Park and George Washington National Forest are a few turns away. There's nothing nicer than sitting on the deck with a drink and watching the birds and the baby cows across the way in the afternoons. The pup and I had the most wonderful time and we will absolutely be back!
My husband and I totally loved our stay in the Yurt. Russell was an amazing host and got back to me within minutes if I had any questions. It had all the amenities of home but the feeling of being close to nature. The yurt sits on a lot of land and our dogs loved exploring. The only thing I will say is the stairs up to the bed are quite tricky and my husband's older knees struggled a bit. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants the experience of "glamping".
We had an absolutely wonderful time over our long weekend at the yurt. Its a very nice space, good to experience living in a circle, and set on a hillside in a very quiet valley. There was a very lively cow heard across the way making thier opinions known, whom we cnamed collectively "Stadler & Waldorf". It is an largely uninsulated tent, so thermalregulation is an active process, and the wifi was put during our stay. I will also reccomend bringing a hand saw, as there is firewood to burn but the stove in the yurt is too small for narmal log sizes.
The lofted bed, skylight, and fabric construction make for a fully immersive experience. Nearly our whole stay was rain, but the play of the rain and wind on the hut was loads of fun.
Definitely reccomend the space.
My husband and I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were blown away! We chose this spot because we thought it would be cool to stay in a yurt, we didn’t know what exactly to expect, but the pictures looked nice! We arrived and were pleasantly surprised at the fact that it is truly in the middle of nowhere (EXACTLY what we wanted). The yurt was gorgeous, super spacious, CLEAN, and felt like home. We enjoyed having breakfast and dinner outside on the deck, listening to the rain fall on the roof, watching the stars from bed, and listening to the sounds of nature (and cows!) in the early morning when we woke up. Also, we enjoyed all of the games!! We played lots of Zuni and LOTS of Scrabble!!
I highly recommend
- taking the hike to Cranny Crow in Lost River State Park
- Lost River Grill for a close by restaurant
- fishing the stream at Howard’s Lick trail for brook trout at Lost River State Park
- Taking an evening in Moorefield to see a movie and have dinner (and dessert!) at Oneills
- Taking at least an afternoon and evening staying in and just enjoying the yurt and the peacefulness!
Thank you, Russell!!
This is a wonderful slice of West Virginia. Russ was very communicative and never more than an email away (something he must monitor constantly). The check-in was seamless and as easy as going home. The drive may be slightly daunting for those uninitiated to Appalachian roads, but nothing to keep you from taking advantage of this local. Just slow down and enjoy the scenery.
The yurt is something to behold second only to the scenery. Be forewarned, if you have some mobility issues the stairs to the sleeping area may be a little tricky. But that is fine, as there is a pullout sleeper. Also, watch your head at the top! I may have dented the boards at the head of the stairs the first time I went up. The kitchen doesn't have a full range, just an electric hotplate so take advantage of the provided charcoal grill. One thing to note, the yurt is located approximately 1.5K feet, so pack a jacket as it gets chilly in the morning. But the sun coming over the mountains will warm you up as you enjoy a cup of coffee on the deck. Even though this is located in the heart of Hardy County and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city we never experienced any issue with the internet connectivity.
Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to escape the outside world for a while and slow down. There is something magical about the mountains.
My husband and I had a very nice time at this location. We got our quiet in, it's in a very nice location, and what an experience in a yurt! The host was incredibly responsive. I would only take this experience in if I had no mobility issues, as the main bed is up some steep steps. We appreciated all of the heating and cooling needs the host has put in the yurt, as some we have seen and experienced have little of these accommodations. A great place to stay in and around the Lost City area of West Virginia!
Glad we had at least one clear night to see the stars. An extremely unique experience in a very private location. Being in a circular living space felt so big! The place is appointed well, with just the right amount of items to make the stay comfortable. But hard to remember we were really not indoors and it is best to venture out in the hottest part of the day.
Extremely well thought out design and amenities. It had more than announced: toaster and an awesome indoor grill (outdoor charcoal grill too) that we got to use - we were there when the storm Ida went through - the yurt held up beautifully (though the rain was loud!). Loved the candles too, and the puzzles and games! Location is great and private - we saw deer and hawks and enjoyed the fire pit at night with shooting stars. Would love to come back.
When you see the structure from the outside it looks like a regular yurt. But when you walk in it's like a 5 star hotel. The place has all the amenities you need to be away for days - full kitchen, dining area, place to relax inside and out. We were able to work remotely for a few days as the wifi worked great. It rained a few days we were there but not to worry, the place had many board games to ease the cabin fever. When it got cold we lit the wood stove to keep us warm and it gave us a cozy atmosphere. The deck was a great place to relax and do yoga. The place is pet friendly for a small fee. Our dog love running laps around the yurt. Russ, the owner, was very responsive to all my inquiries. We will definitely be back!
What a great little jewel if you want o get away from it all and have some peace and quiet! Snuggled against a small hillside in a valley that is full of nature and fragrant smells - truly beautiful scenery to wake up to every morning. Lots of neat birds, a family of bunnies who come out every evening, and some happy cows across the way!
The Wifi is great and you can totally work there if needed. No cell service, but just activate your Wifi calling if needed.
The yurt is appointed with all you need and chairs on the deck which are perfect for some wine/beer every night with total serenity. BBQ grill, earth stove, a/c, and lots of games. Bathroom is very spacious. Loved sleeping underneath the moon and stars every night - a true respite!
Russ the owner/host is excellent at communicating and answering all of your questions! Can't wait to come back and stay in the fall.
We loved our stay at the yurt. It is spacious with a great kitchen that allowed us to cook for ourselves for a week without having to go out. It's in a beautiful location with nearby hiking and wonderful star gazing. Russ was a great host with fast and efficient communication. Highly recommend. Bonus, there is a cow pasture in sight that provides plenty of adorable entertainment, especially when the babies start running around. Heads up, there isn't cell service but the internet works great and we were able to use FaceTime calls and iMessage to contact others. Not sure how this would effect Android users.
