Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
This was the first time we stayed at a riad in M’kesh. We have always stayed in a large hotel. So this review unfortunately reflects the differences between the two and our obvious preference for a hotel. The Monceau is charming and the staff are friendly. Our room was equipped with all the modern conveniences, and the bathroom was amazing. Our bed had seen better days and the mattress was not as comfortable as I would’ve liked. The riad had a band playing in the center courtyard from mid afternoon til late night, and because of the riad structure, you heard it all!! So if you want peace and quiet after a long day, you could not get it! That’s my main complaint. In a big hotel, you can retire to your room and be secluded from the hub bub. So, it’s just a matter of preference. The Monceau is also a small riad, so navigating the common areas is also very tight. Finally, the breakfast doesn’t offer as many options as a big hotel, and the coffee options were limited and not very good! Its close proximity to the Medina was a huge plus however. Overall, the Monceau was clean and charming, but as a matter of preference, I would rather stay in an actual hotel versus a riad in the future.
