Liked: Cleanliness
The hotel is in a beautiful nature reserve, and that’s the reason to stay overnight. But the Howard has some drawbacks. Check-in can be painfully slow. I asked before and at check-in for rooms with easy access for my elderly parents, and was assigned the Phoenix building that requires a climb up 39 steps. The manager seemed to think that TWD$680 for the dinner buffet was a great deal. But the buffet was mediocre: many dishes seemed cold. If you stay, it will be for the wonderful scenery.
Be aware this is an old dormitory facility. The rooms are basic but clean. The whole place smells a bit of mildew. Pillows are not good. There are many hills and stairs to get to some of the rooms. Breakfast was good. It was convenient to be inside the park starting the day, as we avoided some of the crowds from buses.
Convenient location for strolling in the woods with supper options available nearby. Room cleanness is good with appliances and necessities of staying. After checkout, guests can stay in the park till late afternoon, which allows more leisure time to enjoy the natural environment.
