"Room was unclean on arrival. Door required a special manoeuvre to unlock which was a real fire risk as the room windows don’t open. We reported both to reception, but were greeted by a shrug of the soldiers and some story about renewing the cleaning contract at the end of the season. Breakfast was cold meat and cheese with watered down orange juice and just the one toaster. Some staff were helpful but others weren’t. Whilst offering fishing, the staff didn’t know how to obtain the 2 Euro per day...

"A historic building on the outside, modernized on the inside, the guest house lies on the Salpa Line which was built to defend Finland during WWII. The Karelian flag flies proudly in the garden. The hosts arrange tours of the line and enthusiastically suggest walks and activities around Lappeenranta. The walk from the house to the lake Myllylampi was beautiful and alive with birds. Rooms are equipped with kitchen and dining areas."

The sauna is located in a separate suite which was great as it allowed us to maximise use of the adjoining outdoor terrace too. "

"A clean, basic guest house. It is clearly not a five-star "Hilton" hotel nor does it claim to be. The main thing is that it was clean and during our stay quiet. It will not win awards for having the latest design or furnishing but for our purposes it was more than acceptable. It could be the equivalent of staying in someone's spare bedroom without having to entertain the host afterwards. Again, this is not a complaint or negative comment in any case.
