We are a family of 4 with 2 small kids and spent a very good time in an on-site room. Totally recommended and we would come back there. Unbeatable location. Meters away from dark sky project. You can stargaze from its backyard, too! Only 2 comments: some guests left food residual in the sink; maybe a major enforcement is necessary. The bunk bed ladder is squared and very uncomfortable. We would buy tshirts if they had the bending machine design. Thank you Haka House!
This property is very close to Lake Tekapo and there are plenty of public parking spaces. The hotel also has amazing public areas and you will definitely take a photo there.
The only downside is that room is not very big but their bed is super big and convenient (bedside table has 4 outlets and 2 bed lamps!!!)
The staff works very hard to keep the property clean and running well. The shared kitchen is set up well and can hold a lot of people. The only downside was the uncomfortable mattress, which in my case, was a spring mattress rather than a foam.

Amazing view! Nice property with large kitchen and lounge area on the top. We had a room on the ground floor overlooking the lake. The paint on the heating panel on the ceiling was peeling and there was stain on the toilet seat. Shower hose was leaking but the team fixed it when we told them. Overall it was alright for a one night stay.
View of the lake from my room was gorgeous. Everything was conveniently located within walking distance.

This is a hostel NOT a hotel. At least half the rooms are shared dormitories with some communal facilities for cooking, TV watching, pool table etc. We had our own bathroom but otherwise the room was lacking - e.g. there was a kettle and mugs but no spoons and no complimentary tea/coffee. The room was small without much space for luggage although the bed was comfortable and the heating worked quite well. The staff mentioned that other people had been surprised that this was more of a hostel. Also we have toured South Island and this was probably the most expensive stay even though it had the least facilities.
Our hotel had a spectacular view and the room was perfect for a one night stay…sadly we didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy it because after a great day at Mt. Cook (less than an hour up the road) we heard about some bad weather moving in during the night. Not wanting to get stuck with some road closures the next day (when we needed to be in Christchurch) we ended up checking out an hour after checking in. If not for the weather we would have enjoyed the view from our room when waking up the next day.

Property was good. Easy access to the restaurant, and some places you wanna see.
The room we stayed in was pretty clean, although there were some space constraint and we spotted a few flies in the room which is still acceptable. We booked one with the lake view and it was beautiful in the morning. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Haka house.
Great location and updated hostel. Unfortunately the quiet hours are not enforced well on each night we stayed and had limited sleep. Staff were made aware after the first night and stated they had a large group of school students with a supervisor present however the second night same occurrence happened. Otherwise nice stay
Room was clean and cozy. The shower was a bit too small to use comfortably. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is right on the lake and there is a lounge and dining hall that offer stunning views. Would recommend visiting the Dark Sky Project which is directly next door.
