Historic Adirondack Great Camp *Boat Access Only*

Camp Undercliff, built in 1880 as a private camp, enjoys a rich history in Lake Placid lore. From 1889-1912 it was rented out to the public and consisted of numerous cottages, a dining hall, an infirmary and even its own casino. Eventually it was sold to the New York Central Railroad as a retreat for its members. From 1939-1963, new owners used it as a music camp for children. With its unparalleled views of the lake and mountains, it has provided the pinnacle Adirondack experience to thousands of fortunate patrons for over a century.
Most of the original buildings no longer exist, but one of the main cottages has been beautifully maintained and is available for rental. Camp Undercliff is accessed by boat only, enhancing its private setting. The camp features a large sitting dock with spectacular views, a private swimming area and access to the best fishing on Lake Placid. Use of a ski boat and pontoon boat is included with the rental. There is a boat slip at the marina along with one reserved car parking space for use during your stay. Gas for the boats is available at the marina as well.
The main house sleeps 13 people. A separate guest cabin which accommodates six additional guests is available for an extra nightly fee. Photos labeled ‘Upper Cabin” are of this separate building. If interested in adding this cabin to your vacation please get in touch for details.
Amenities available at the camp include satellite TV and DSL Internet (limited to email and web surfing only due to remote location). Many board games and puzzles are available in the main house. Outdoor games include ping pong, bocce ball, corn hole, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton and croquet.
The front covered veranda is just one of the classic and original details of this camp, as is the second floor covered porch, both of which feature glorious views of the lake and the Adirondack High Peaks. There is a first floor bedroom and full bathroom, with an additional six bedrooms on the second and third levels. Two full bathrooms are on the second floor. The Camp has been updated with a new kitchen and bathrooms but still maintains its rustic Adirondack character.
Off the main house is a 16 X 24 foot screened in rear porch with a second kitchen and dining area, perfect for larger gatherings. There is a gas grill and a charcoal grill off of the back porch. Outdoor sitting areas include a fire pit and gardens with a lighted walkway to the guest cabin (available for an additional nightly fee) and the boathouse docks.
Camp Undercliff would be the perfect backdrop for anyone choosing to unplug and fully appreciate the beauty of the Adirondack High Peaks region.

Loving Camp Underhill
In short...this was the best family vacation hands down. I have already recommended Camp Underhill to a friend in California who was looking for something different for their family vacation next year. We have already booked for ourselves for next year.

Lake House Visit of a Lifetime
Camp Undercliff is that rare lake house stay that lives up to what you'd imagined, hoped or dreamed about your vacation. Boat-access only made it incredibly special, and beginning the day sitting on the dock or front porch and watching Lake Placid come to life will stay with us all forever, as will firepits, games around the table and yard games. Katie was an outstanding host. Jon was an excellent caretaker. If you're looking for an amazing place to visit with a large group, this is it.

Great outdoor experience, House needs help!
I rated this property a 3 and not lower because we had a blast, with the dock for fishing and swimming, the boat for fishing and tubing, the kayaks, and the beauty of the lake, our family (7 adults and 5 children) had a great time Inspite of the shortcomings of the house. The amenities make this rental, definitely not the house. First I would start off with the positives: we made a Ton of Awesome memories - from spending alot of time gathered around the table in the outside kitchen (eating all our meals and playing games), fishing off the dock (catching Alot of fish), fishing off the boat to swimming off the dock and tubing around the lake. It was a super relaxing week. Now for the cons: We were not impressed with this house. We totally understand that it is a rustic unique rental but it is still in desperate need of upgrades/ repairs and a very very thorough cleaning! We spent 7 hours of our vacation time cleaning the frigs and the grill (of which they should buy a new reliable one) I would not recommend this property and it is Totally not worth the money you are paying for it.

A Mini Adirondack Museum
Our whole family stayed here, 6 adults and 4 teenagers. This camp was plenty big enough to hold us all comfortably. It worked even though we had at least some rain every day we were there. There are 2 big porches and there was actually a really nice place to sit in the boat house. If you have ever been to the Adirondack museum, you'll understand where the title came from. Of course, it was/is a great camp and the character hasn't changed. Every room has an array of adirondack artifacts, including most of the furniture which was in the rustic birchbark/ twig /bentwood style. There is alot of history here. The second screened kitchen was very helpful, as we could do some of our cooking and eating there. There was a BIG firepit with chairs which we were able to use despite the weather. The dock was super, with nice chairs and lounges for sunbathing. And, the fishing was good right off the dock. The grandkids caught a number of nice sized rainbow trout from there. Check-in was easy. We met Jon the caretaker at the marina, and he rode with us on the pontoon boat to the camp and got us oriented. By the way, the pontoon boat was quite nice, as well as the ski boat, which has plenty of power for tubing and watersking. We have always been fans of the 'Daks and Undercliff didn't disappoint.

Forever Wild
Our family of thirteen loved our stay at Camp Undercliff beginning with our short voyage to the camp with our boat piled high with provisions. The house is like a great antlered ship full of history, books, games, memorabilia, and character. It has a well stocked kitchen, plenty of cool nooks and crannies, two great porches for conversation and reading, a lovely screened in dining room and comfortable bedrooms. At night when the boats are in their bays, the silence becomes a presence that we are all missing in our hectic culture. There is no noise pollution. We sat around a fire and listened to silence pierced only by the loon and the owl and the wind. The dock is great and water delightful. We had many an expedition of kayaks, paddle boards and canoes to discover the nooks and crannies of the lake. The speed boat was perfect for water skiing and the pontoon was fun to take out with all of us or for fishing. The kids ran bare foot playing hide and seek for hours through the house and outside. Teenagers put down their phones and one 16 boy learned to play guitar, while the other played a ukulele! We made art using nature only and took a hike laden with moss and mushrooms, fir trees and birch, streams and even a ghost plant. We felt lucky to have found Camp Undercliff.
