Arenal Birdsong. Entire Villa w/ Stunning Volcano & Lake Views

Nestled on a lush and secluded hilltop, with spectacular views of Lake Arenal, Arenal Volcano and the Children’s Eternal Rain Forest, Birdsong Villa welcomes you to little piece of paradise. Experience an unforgettable holiday in one of Costa Rica’s premier travel destinations. Check our other listings if you want to rent the Birdsview suite or the Gardenview suite separately.

Accommodation: The villa sleeps up to 6 people & has 2 floors. Upstairs is a full kitchen, jacuzzi, indoor-outdoor shower, 1 queen bed & and a pull out couch that accommodates 1 extra adult (or 2 small children., Bali ceilings, a patio with hammocks & world class views of the volcano, the lake & the jungle. Downstairs is a queen size bed & and also a pull out couch that accommodates 1 extra adult (or 2 small children) kitchenette, bathroom, refrigerator & also great views of the volcano, the lake & the jungle

Location: Birdsong Villa is only 3 hours (150km) from two international airports, either in the capital of San Jose, or on the northern pacific coast in Liberia. Birdsong Villa is just 30 minutes from La Fortuna, which offers amenities such as grocery, banking, post office, restaurants, hot springs, excursions and much more.

Amenities: The villa offers luxury and elegance with the comforts of home, including satellite TV and high speed wifi internet.
As you sit out on the observation deck and the sunshine warms your skin, close your eyes and listen to the melody of the birds and howler monkeys, all set against the rushing waters of the Piedras Negras river and nearby waterfalls.

Things to do: Experience the ultimate Costa Rican holiday with some of our recommended day trips. The Arenal area has it all, from zip-lining, horse riding, hot springs, butterfly conservatory, kayaking and paddle boarding, fishing, hiking, birding, and more. Everything you could ask for is less than an hour away so you will spend more time enjoying your holiday and less time driving. Our concierge is always available at our new and modern Welcome Center to help you book tours, find the best restaurants, book a massage and get the most out of your time in the area.

GETTING AROUND: You will want a 4WD vehicle. The last drive up to the house is a road made of gravel and rocks. When it rains there are potholes. You will be a lot happier with a 4WD here and in most areas of Costa Rica. While there are a couple of things to see and one restaurant within walking distance of the house, there are many activities that require a 10 to 45 minute drive. You will not be happy waiting for a cab to arrive either coming of going.

This was a beautiful place with some issues. The good: beautiful home, nicely appointed, great views of the lake and Arenal Volcano (when the clouds cleared). A lot of insects, but expected in a jungle habitat. Secluded and intimate, a great place to go if you want to get away for a couple of days with a loved one to reconnect. The bad: there are two rooms, separated by a long stairway outside the building. There is no internal way to get from upstairs to downstairs, and if it is raining it is more of an issue. In the main section (upstairs) the shower, the bathroom, and the "hot tub" which is an indoor jacuzzi bathtub is inside in the corner of the unit across from the bed. Great if you are there with just a couple, if you have kids, or other guests, there is no privacy. Also, it says that this sleeps 8, but that is a stretch, and 8 would be very crowded. Also, the road up to the home is steep and rutted, and while the information suggests needing a 4 wheel drive to get up the road, it is not stated on the information prior to booking. you really do need that, as even with a 4WD vehicle, it was occasionally difficult. Also, the initial search showed this as a "La Fortuna" property, and it turns out after booking that it is actually in El Castill0, a 40 minute drive around the base of the volcano. i would still rent it again, however not with a family, unless i could use the upstairs alone and enjoy the privacy to ourselves.

A Gem in the Rainforest
This place was absolutely incredible to stay at. The home is beautiful, and the grounds are stunning. The groundskeeper, Pio, showed us around and brought us some fruit off of the property. He made us feel welcome, and while he only speaks Spanish, we had a fun time conversing with him. We highly recommend Birdsong!

Amazing views
I've stayed at high end resorts and niche rental properties all over the western hemisphere. The views here were unlike anything I've ever seen. They were absolutely amazing. You will need a decent high clearance vehicle to get here. The road is dirt and rock. There are large potholes and washed out areas. I'm not sure 4x4 is necessary but you will probably do some damage to a sedan. There are a couple of local markets within 10 minutes that stock most things you might need. The gardener was very nice and provided a tour of the property. He only speaks Spanish (which is part of the fun). He brought us fruits and coffee that was grown on the property. It was a very unique experience. We will be back.

Hands down our favorite place we stayed in Costa Rica
This property was perfect in every way! We loved everything right down to the shower inside the villa. The only complaint I have is the bathtub didn’t fill or at least if we did try it would have been cold by the time it filled bc of the water pressure. The outdoor shower only had lukewarm water as well and wouldn’t stay hot, if it was on hot it trickled out. Other than that we will def be back, absolutely loved our stay

Loved every minute!
What an amazing property to spend half of our honeymoon! Beautiful views, pretty private, and great communication! We rented the upstairs and downstairs. On our second night, we did notice some other people staying above the car port but it didn’t bother us. The welcome book made me a little afraid of critters in the house but they weren’t too bad! We had one lizard and a spider but we were in the rainforest so that was expected! The bathtub takes about 45 minutes to fill up so make sure you plan ahead if you want a bath! Overall we had an amazing time and we were really impressed with the tours that the welcome book recommended. We hope to go back one day!

Hidden Gem
This property is amazing! I recommend a 4 wheel drive because you do have to travel up a bumpy gravel road to get to the property, but it’s not too bad, and totally worth it!! You have amazing views, great weather, and get to wake up to all sorts of birds chirping. There is a tree right outside the window that toucans like to sit in. We would often leave the windows open with screens and it felt amazing inside the house. It gets very cool at night too. I was concerned because it doesn’t have A/C but you absolutely do not need A/C here. (We are from Texas and used to having A/C) My kids (8 and 11) loved this property and the rainforest in general. It was amazing for them to experience this and all of the animals/birds. There is also a restaurant walking distance called the Pheonix. That was nice because we arrived about 6 pm and were able to have a good dinner not far away.

Saved the best for last!
Our family of six stayed in Birdsong Villa for the last two days of our 11-day trip in Costa Rica... and we definitely saved the best for last! The view of Arenal Volcano was absolutely amazing! The set up of the property was also perfect, allowing the kids to take control of the lower unit, while my wife and I had the upstairs all to ourselves. The Master unit has huge windows that look out over the lush grounds and Volcano beyond, soaring ceilings and a unique outdoor stone shower with waterfall. Augustin was so helpful and communicative. Also, the fact that breakfast was included each morning at The Phoenix Restaurant was such a blessing! Juan and his staff treat you like the most important people in the world, making us fresh fruit smoothies and delicious hot chocolate to our kid's delight. Lastly, the landscaper, named Pio, truly made this place special. He took time to show us the various flora and fauna the he hands selected for the property, then us on a personal tour of the surrounding countryside, ending at an idyllic waterfall. His kindness to our family will not be forgotten, and is indicative of the Costa Rician people. Thank you for an amazing end to an unforgettable trip! We'll be back!

Great views at Birdsong
Overall great property with wonderful volcano, lake, and jungle views. We rented both the upstairs and downstairs for a family of 4 and that was the right size. The property was recently taken over by a new management team so you actually check-in at the Welcome Center in El Castillo and they escort you up a winding, rocky road to the property - 4WD vehicle HIGHLY recommended. The swinging chairs on the patio down the hill from the house were a fabulous way to enjoy the scenery, a birdwatching paradise. Wonderful breakfast is provided at the nearby Phoenix restaurant - we loved our interactions with this small family-owned place and the wood fired pizzas were great. Mistico Hanging Bridges nearby were awesome. Not an easy property to get to as it's many miles of windy mountain roads but worth the effort if you're coming to the area.
