"Had a good one night stay here. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough time to see everything i wanted too, but it turned out to be perfect. You can drop off your luggage before and after you check in which is really nice. Highlights for me were the public bath, and morning ceremony."

"The experience was what we expected. Very Japanese, quiet with beautiful gardens. They changed our booking from a room for 6 to three rooms for 2 each and had a nice garden view. The dinner was surprisingly very good with all vegetable dishes but quite diverse texture and taste. We enjoyed our stay. "

"Stayed one night at this Shukubo. The place was beautiful - temple, garden, room, surrounding area. My husband is a Vegan, so he was very happy with the meal. However, I found it to be a little dissapointing. Shukubo evolved during the past 20 years, and now catered to foreign visitors. "The area around the property is so beautiful! I loved waking up in the morning & seeing the forest outside. My room was very clean and the front desk service very friendly. I really enjoyed the dinner & breakfast service (everything tasted amazing!~) and the morning meditation ceremony was memorable. Everyone at the temple are so kind and helpful."

"Excellent Ryokan that has been well maintained and cared for given its long history. The old facility is evident and yet despite that, provided a cosy stay. The host was extremely warm and welcoming and showed the hospitality as one would expect from a traditional Ryokan passed down from decades old. "It was nearly empty so we were upgraded. Usually I think there would be a lot of people. Rooms were excellent and service good. Food was simple but for the price I can’t complain. "

"This will have to be my most favorite part of my trip to Japan. You will have to intentionally come here for the temple stay. First and foremost, the facility will ONLY ACCEPT CASH payment for the stay. Though my wife and I were not too fond of the shared wash rooms to wash up. I don’t believe the facility has rooms with private wash rooms. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. "It’s worth noting that this is not a normal hotel but a traditional pilgrim’s lodging, so it is expected that you sleep on a mat on the floor and the facilities are relatively basic. You are staying here for the experience. The property was clean with onsen (hot bath) provided and our room had its own toilet/sink. "Wonderful stay. Lovely kaiseki dinner. The staff were super attentive and friendly. The hot spings were clean and very relaxing after a long day walking and driving. Oh and the view from the room in the morning across the valley was stunning"

"The hotel is pas its prime and needs either a major renovation or a sunset. Too many things are falling apart or feel abandoned."

"We enjoyed the ryokan very much for the authenticity of old Japan. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Wearing the yutaka at the property was such a thrill for us. The staff were so friendly, kind and attentive. Thank you for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Such a contrast from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and Osaka central. "Our room was big and clean and the staff was friendly, overall the temple lodge was s great experience. Koyasan is a truly magical place to visit."

"Good location, great services, has all need. There is no private bathroom, all shared bathrooms, their no chairs all sitting on floor. Could do with a little low chair in room. I had to ask for goma fire as they are not doing them anymore. I think they should have them, lots of people wanted it. I book late, had double price it should be, over price. At normal price it is a good placed to stay and would recommend."

"It was 15 mins walk from the nearest station. It was dark and we got lost. 😅 Also the wall was so thin. We were able to hear everything what the outside people said at the car park next to the house.
