The country stay is also a drive away from the city of Dunedin, around 1 and a half hours drive southeast if you’re looking for attractions to visit in the region as well. Here are some of our recommendations for your trip to this area:
Our local recommendations:
- Te Waipounamu, also known as the South Island, is where Rail Trail Stop is a part off. It is one of the most stunning diverse islands on the planet. This diversity contributes to the grand scenery of mountains, rivers, lakes and glaciers in the region.
- Larnach Castle offers an insight into Victorian Culture, featuring beautifully restored and interesting architecture by the Barker family who have owned and cared for the Castle since 1967. Its stunning gardens has recently been selected as Garden of International Significance.
- Baldwin Street is famously known as the world's steepest street. Ascending Baldwin Street is a manageable feat, and the effort is rewarded with the spectacle and vistas of Dunedin's verdant surroundings.
- Moeraki Boulders Beach comes up around the Otago coastline and is famous for its mysteriously spherical stones scattered across a beach. Stop by for some seaside breeze and admire nature’s weird wonders.
- Royal Albatross Centre is the sole mainland breeding site for Royal Albatross, the only one of its kind globally. Venture around a unique observatory situated within the nature reserve, where you can witness the majestic albatross engage with one another.
