Hawaiian Sanctuary

3.0 star property
7.8 out of 10, Good, (53)
"The staff was so friendly. There were lots of animals: peacocks, cats, frogs, geese. We loved it! We booked it to be closer to Volcanoes National Park, without realizing there was no road that cuts across. We had to go amidst to Hilo in order to go back down to the Volcanoes, so it wasn't the most convenient, but we loved the vibe!"

Ala Kai Bed & Breakfast

3.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (118)
"The owners were very helpful and gracious. We enjoyed having our own cottage where we could have our own refrigerator, microwave and washer/dryer. The owners told us about a great local restaurant where we ate dinner the first night and talked to a friend to find a good Thai restaurant for us when we asked for one. They also had a wonderful cat for us to cuddle."

"Gorgeous property, quiet and serene, loved sleeping to the rain. It is clear this place was a labor of love to build and is well maintained. The volcanoes national park was 5 mins away and so convenient. The little “town” of Volcano had good restaurants and art center. Would love to come back!"

Aloha Suite: Watch Whales, Breakfast included at Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast

9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (15)
"Thanks to Erich and Suzy for making our short stay as cozy as possible and helping us figure out plans. Between plane delays and terribly rainy weather, our volcano visit was mostly a washout. But the rooms were very cute, the nice big bathroom was helpful to have with all 4 of us, and the breakfast was delish. Thanks again!"

Volcano Eco Retreat by Heart Core Hotels - Adults Only

3.5 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (15)
"This resort is no longer open, however we were not notified by E prior to arriving onsite after booking well in advance. Luckily the staff were very nice and explained the situation, but we had to make last minute accommodations to stay elsewhere which was not fun after a long day of traveling. Lesson learned: either book directly or confirm bookings outside of Expedia since their notification system is not reliable."

B&B: Kipuka Twin Suite 5 mins from Volcanoes National Park

9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (11)
"Being a child of a native-born islander I treat my visits as a birthright, a chance to learn more about my island roots. My family emigrated from the Philippines to Kauai and eventually settled in Oahu. I had never been to the Big Island so when my sister suggested we visit I said OKAY. (BTW, she’s basically a local, having lived here for over 30 years). The stay at Lava Pond Lodge was PERRRRFECCCT! The hospitality was unmatched in our opinion, rooms and common area very comfortable and...

"Very nice place, location is great for a visit to the Volcano area. Owners were timely and helpful with our request for information. Although we did not get to meet Sarah, she was on vacation, her lovely aunt Lila filled in. The breakfast in the morning was great, with a lot of delicious options, the fruit bowl each morning was awesome. My husband fell in love with the sandwich maker and it started the day off wonderfully. There was no coffee maker in our small room but Lila found one for me as...
