I take all the blame for this - I looked at the pictures and read the reviews and looked at it's really high rating, but although I don't think it is a BAD place it does seem very over-rated. It's a bit away from the main action in Karuizawa, and in winter it may be the cosiest hide-away ever, but in mid-March (2016) I found it too isolated with no real benefit for my own tastes. It says it's a cafe but only appears to do breakfast (pre-ordered), so if you arrive on a cool afternoon wanting a coffee and snack you may be disappointed. Our room costs the same as a budget room in Tokyo, but we has to make up our own beds, rent towels and share bathroom and toilet facilities. My friend sleep poorly due to the sound of thumping feet on the floorboards outside our room, and the sound of people vomiting in the early hours. We has to walk a couple kms into the town for our evening meal which was a cool but pleasant walk. This place is "OK" at best - and I don't understand why it is so highly rated, it didn't have any 'awesome atmosphere' to make up for its lack of creature comforts. If I return to Karuizawa I'll seek out a soulless hotel in the main town where I can spread out a bit more, sleep a bit more, get a meal and have my own toilet.
