When we arrived to the hotel, it was about 10pm and there was no one at the reception. We had to ask one of the neighbors to call them to come check us in. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to finally come. He was nice, but didn't speak any English at all, and he showed us to our room. As soon as we opened the room, there was a VERY BAD and pungent mold smell. I've never smelled something so strong in mold and the air was damp, heavy, and hard to breathe. I also have asthma, so it's even worse for me and I can feel it right away. My partner usually is not affected, but after running the aircon and hoping that it would go away for a little over 45 minutes, neither of us could stand it anymore and we were starting to get a headache. We then had to call the number left on the reception door for someone to come again and a girl came who spoke English.
We asked her to check the room with us and asked to be moved to a different room. We went with her to the room and she closed the bathroom door and said that all of their rooms smelled that way. and they had no rooms left. We told her that we could not stay in the room and that we did not want to pay for the room considering it was already late and we had to book something last minute after our long trip. She refused to cancel it and said we'd have to talk to hotels.com. Outrageous. I've never had such bad service anywhere.
We were very tired from our long trip and it's not like we didn't try asking for a different room.
