Ryokusone is a special place ... truly a gem in the crown of Kanazawa, a lovely town with gorgeous gardens and fascinating historic districts. But what made our time there unforgettable was our stay at this tiny, traditional inn perched a five minute taxi ride above the town. The proprietor and his lovely staff have put tremendous time and attention into creating the perfect Japanese experience. We had two incredible authentic Japanese breakfasts - each truly a work of art, plus a memorable and delicious dinner. They were incredibly accommodating in meeting our dietary restrictions and as first-time visitors the English-speaking owner was so helpful in arranging transportation and offering advice -- even coordinating the transfer our heavy bags onward to Kyoto. The hotel has been recently renovated and is stunning in it's simplicity -- rooms were simply decorated, in traditional ryokan style, the bedding plush and the bath luxurious, with a cedar tub and Aesop bath amenities and plenty of soft white towels. As seasoned travelers, we are very particular about our accommodations -- we stayed at the magnificent Aman in Tokyo -- and while different, this simple yet luxurious stay was in its own way its equal. We will never forgot our time at Ryokusone, and were so glad that we opted to stay there rather than an impersonal city center chain hotel.
