"The Takeo Onsen Kyotoya is a traditional Japanese hotel. I wanted the tatami mat and futon experience and this property exceeded my expectations. I enjoy the older style of hotel as the nostalgia of the experience is valuable to me. The room and bath were well appointed and very comfortable. "The Good: The hot spring baths on the 5th floor (inside and outside) are really worth the challenge in getting to the hotel. There is good hiking around the town although the info available from the tourist office is quite limited for those speaking English. The Not So Good: The room I had, although quite spacious, was not very practical. A single thin futon bed was in the middle of a otherwise largely empty space. "The hotel is comfortable with a private onsen to enjoy in our room. The meals were wonderful and the staff bent over backwards to cater for my shellfish allergy. The room is large and lightfilled. We enjoyed the entire trip and thank the friendly staff for their support"

Do note that this ryokan does not offer dining options hence you may want to consider other options if you are looking for a full onsen ryokan experience.
