"Conveniently located within walking distance from JR Wakayama and in front of the bus station, hotel is well situated for travelling to other parts of Wakayama or within the city. Hotel is pretty old and rooms are small sized. Bathroom is pretty compact which is typical of Japanese hotels. "A very different experience for a foreigner, and one that I cherished as a student of Buddhism. If you aren’t adventurous, I don’t recommend it, and if you go, please be curious, open, and full of respect. The non-sleeping rooms will be very cold in winter, the food served is the food served, without changes available, there are rules about which slippers to wear where and what can be photographed, etc. If you’re interested in deep travel (versus hedonism), you will be gifted and changed....

"The room looks like it’s been water damaged and the ceiling and walls were bogged with cement. Staff were very nice but the property was very poor. I didn’t like the communal kitchen. I want to make a coffee first thing in the presence myself. "

"Had a good one night stay here. I was worried it wouldn’t be enough time to see everything i wanted too, but it turned out to be perfect. You can drop off your luggage before and after you check in which is really nice. Highlights for me were the public bath, and morning ceremony."

"Amazing experience! Our room was beautiful and the hotel is in a great area for walking aroind Koyasan. I used the onsen and had it to myself. Both the dinner and breakfast meals were amazing, as was partaking in the morning prayer"

"Hamachidorinoyu Kaisyu is a lovely onsen ryokan. The baths were outstanding, two indoor and two outdoor, one of hinoki wood and and one of stone, slightly different in temperature to accommodate most tastes. The water views were excellent, and soaring hawks could often be seen. The food was excellent and abundant. The rooms were comfortable and clean, with the Western style bed (mattress on a low platform) quite comfortable. Nice touches were the popsicles and ice cream pops available in the lounge room outside the onsen in the afternoon, and the lactic acid drink available in the mornings. Situated within walking distance of the Senjojiki Rock Plateau and Sandanbecki Caves and Cliffs, and with a bus stop at the top of the driveway for easy access to Shirarahama Beach, an outdoor foot bath, Banshoyama Park, and the aquarium, there were many walking and sight-seeing opportunities. A wonderful experience!"
