"All in all nice little cottage for a couple and good as was pet friendly to go up Durham to visit our son up uni and take our dog to see him too. Cottage was nice a little place although i think the tv was slightly too high on wall. As we arrived there were 3 plumbing vans parked outside so had to park out side another cottage for bout hour n half till they moved their vans after going in pub at front of cottages before parking own car then outside our own cottage. "The cottage had been beautifully renovated and was located centrally in the old district of town. A couple of small things would have improved the stay-the stairs to the second storey were steep and a bannister rail would have been appreciated, several basic supply items were lacking- no tea bags or fire lighters to light the kindling and wood supplied, and the heating automatically turned off after short periods and not all heaters appeared to be working. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay."

"Absolutely brilliant cottage. All new fixtures and fittings with everything you could need for your stay. The drains smell came and went- not sure where it came from and it didn’t really bother us. Location fantastic for walks along the coast and short drive to other coastal towns. Would recommend"

"Our stay over Christmas in the beautiful Kestral cottage was superb. Jean and Amy made us feel very welcome and went 'above & beyond' to make our stay perfect. The cottage has all the amenities you could ask for and was spotlessly clean. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to spend a quiet break in County Durham. Say hi to the llamas!"

"Property was brilliant area excellent as I know it well being from Walker originally.Could not fault the cottage apart from the obviously inflated price for Sam Fender concert. As a Geordie this didn't go down too well. A must if you are a visitor to the area as it is set in an idyllic and central area for almost everything worth visiting in Newcastle area and beyond."

"Well this booking was made on the whole purpose of having a relaxing weekend after running 350km for charity over the past few months. So we booked here for the hot tub and the relevant ease of running a Park Run on the Saturday. After running this Park Run we returned back to the accommodation for our day of in and out of the hot tub. Although this turned out to be turned off so we had an ice bath, not advertised on the website. We then were told that we would get a nights refund for this...

"Fab trip and a lovely house. The Ashes is a cosy and peaceful getaway in beautiful surroundings. 10 of us stayed for a birthday celebration over 4 nights, and everyone enjoyed their stay. There are a few cobwebs, like other reviews I’d seen had mentioned, but that’s to be expected in a place like this and the place was otherwise clean and comfortable. The owner had left us a wheelbarrow full of fire wood, and the fire was lit when we arrived. We self catered and managed just fine, though...
